I mean I was always deeply disturbed by what I read and could never look at a rat the same way. Kind of regret reading it so young. I suppose I'd understand it a lot better now but I'm a little afraid to dive back into it.

I read American Psycho when I was 13 (I was a big Christian Bale fan and wanted to see how the book compared to the movie). Even then, it seemed like the misogyny in the book was a commentary, not some sort of instruction manual. I feel like most of Ellis' work is a criticism of materialism, misogyny, drug abuse, "promiscuity", etc. and if you don't pick up on that, you need to reread his books.

I feel like any time there's an issue at hand that people feel passionately about, emotions can get in the way of facts. Should we be outraged by RIC? I think so, but I also think the best place to start when researching and supporting a cause should be scientific facts.

Um I never said it wasn't?

Fair enough, just know that I (rightfully so) judge you for calling yourself an MRA.

Don't know why everyone feels the need to be an ass to me when I'm SUPPORTING you.

No idea. Ask the people who conducted them.

Why do you call yourself a MRA?

Honestly, it's just convenient to call myself a feminist rather than go into great depth to explain all of my beliefs. Most of my beliefs align with feminism anyway, so that's how u choose to label myself. I really don't see how a movement that has such a heavy focus on bodily autonomy could ignore the brutality of circumcision. I think it should be a major concern for everyone since it's a violation of human rights.

I wish my vagina looked like a cool animal. It just looks like a Georgia O'Keefe painting. Flowers are okay I guess.

I disagree seeing as there are advocates of every gender for both movements (male feminists, for example).

Additionally, the studies I've seen concerning circumcision and HIV reduction were done in Africa, not the United States.

Well seeing as I only represent myself and not the entire feminist community, I don't have an answer to that question. As for the STI thing, I must have been misinformed.

I read this article a while back about how all these little Jewish babies acquired HSV from their circumcisions.

If I recall correctly there were studies done showing that circumcision was extremely helpful in reducing HIV in Africa.

I like to think that MRA and feminists strive for the same thing: equality regardless of sex/gender. Everyone wants to be treated like a person.

They look normal either way. Circumcised and uncircumcised penises have been around for so long that both seem normal to me. Unless your dick is neon green or curled like a pig tail, it's probably normal.

Feminist checking in (don't kill me). I think most reasons for infant circumcision are bullshit. Cleanliness? Be a parent and wash your kid's penis and teach him basic genital hygiene when he's old enough. I understand that there are a few benefits, but they don't seem worth it to me. Yes, circumcision may decrease the risk of UTI's, but males don't experience UTI's very often anyway, and most UTI's can be easily treated with antibiotics. Yes, circumcision can help prevent contraction of STI's, …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
