How overweight are you? I cut 20kg (44 lbs) in 6 weeks by just removing carbohydrates from my diet and only eating lean meat and vegetables. I also downsized my portions. I exercised on a gym bike for 30m/day which is probably the easiest exercise in the world. I checked my weight on a daily basis as a reminder to keep on track. While that kind of diet is extreme and not really recommended by health professionals, seeing yourself lose 7 lbs a week is an amazing motivator. The trick is to get int…

100% true. If anyone is unsure about the disconnect between what women think they want and what they actually want, watch any chick flick. Most of the time the guy does something that IRL would be considered creepy as fuck (turning up outside a chicks window, some sort of stalking, endless displays of affection) but those movies sell well. Why? Because then women feel it from the guys point of view, and side with him. The romance of the moment seen from the guys side makes practically anything p…

Doesn't really work, at least not for everyone. In my case I dieted hard to look fairly good (frequent compliments on nights out, occasional girl coming up to me, that kind of thing) as I was slightly overweight before. I exercised daily for a minimum of 30 mins aerobic and I hadn't drunk for years or done any kind of drugs. Still had serious difficulty talking to girls and people in general for reasons I wont go into. I'm still anxious and occasionally awkward, things are getting better but the…

Did that make you feel good, that little self-pat on the back? You're in a minority, many people who are trying to get laid for their first time do not have your confidence or are good looking enough to have girls come to them. You are in no way superior to people who drink/take drugs and get laid. Get over yourself.

Yeah really getting into the mindset of not caring about what others think of me and just assuming the best is one I have to learn. I've seen that talk, it's really interesting. I'm still so used to not sitting/standing up straight that I have to constantly remind myself though. Have you done anything to make that easier, or is it just continuous practice and brute force work?

Yeah actually. Thought I didn't at first but I get a bit of anxiety passing people sometimes, and I guess there's some worry about having a conversation and being bad at it. I've quelled that a bit by slowing my thoughts down to speaking pace as I've very easily gotten distracted by people before, but now my own thinking and how I feel about myself feels stronger than other people around me. I definitely have to speak to people more though. Both seddit and socialskills say to talk to everyone.

I'll give it a shot and see if it works. I really miss having the ability and belief to talk to absolutely anyone. Thank you.

See, the weird thing is that about a year ago I had the listening down to a T. I could just listen and extrapolate a perfectly easygoing and enjoyable conversation from it. I'd be able to chat to a single individual for hours, which was enormous progress compared to what I used to be. But for most of the rest of my life (now and for about 8 years before that time last year - because I lost it at some point) even when I do "just" listen, my mind has gone blank. It's very annoying.

You're so like me. What I'd like to ask though is, do you get some days when you do feel chatty, and conversations are fun and easy? And these days are few and far between? If so then that's my experience exactly. As a result, to make that happen more often I've forced myself to remember good conversations and forget bad ones. That I have to relax when I speak to people, to have fun and to always always ALWAYS remind myself that socializing is easy and enjoyable - I've just been misjudging it. O…

You really have to strike a balance though, and that's what I find toughest. If you don't think, you can be inane and not as interesting. If you think too much, you'll stumble in your conversation. What I'm working on at the moment is trying to keep my mind actively thinking while I'm speaking to people, but in an external way. Instead of thinking of what I'm doing, or trying to plan out the conversation, I try to get my mind actively imagining and exploring the possibilities of what I and other…

The "You're So Money" speech from Swingers is one I found the other day and it really hit me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhmcJ7Zg5ko Also a couple of quotes that resonated: The first step before anyone else in the world believes it, is that you have to believe it. - Will Smith There's a delusional quality that all successful people have to have. You have to believe that something different to what has happened for the last million tries, will happen. - Will Smith The man who says he can't, a…

I hope I don't sabotage things for you, but flooding isn't always a good idea. Sometimes CBT and incremental increases work out better for overall confidence. Try it anyway and see how it goes.

I may be off here, but the way I've always managed it (not that I'm some PUA or anything) is that in order to be an interesting person, you need to be an interested person. Be interested in the other person, listen what they have to say. When most people let the other person speak in a conversation they are thinking of what they're going to say next - don't be that guy. Use that time to really listen and you'll be surprised what your mind comes up with automatically. This is a big part of what c…

Your fear of rejection will be lower, but try not to get caught in the trap of only feeling properly comfortable chatting up girls when you're by yourself. That happened to me. Went out solo, had fantastic nights that always ended in after-parties and fucks. Then on nights hanging with my friends I felt like a retard again. So take care.

It's not gay, when it's in a 3-way.

One i've used for this that works well is "how about you buy us a drink to share, and i'll get the second round?" Allows for some accidental kino and you get to be a bit playful.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
