So what happened to the post?

Same. I'd used some of his books. I don't read "Christian" marriage books so I didn't see this but Dalrock's article definitely opened my eyes and lowered my opinion of the value of Keller's material.

Hilarious, beautiful and spot on.

I'm looking at the end of her article, her profession of a deeper and different love for him than before. It was stoic frame that led her there. That's all I meant.

Did you read the article in OP? The "stoic" reference is to his response to a medical concern. She was jumpy and frantic; he was calm and asking questions. He led her through it. That's the "stoic" frame he was adopting that she referenced. There is a time to be passionate and give her tingles; in the middle of a health crisis is not the time. But what was the end result of his stoic frame? The tingles.

Thanks! Definitely a point in the right direction. I'm looking for attribution for the quote because it is, in fact, that good.

Thank you. Do you have a link to that book? I meant, which specific passage is it from (which book, which paragraph number)?

Farmer walks with as heavy weight as you can carry. Buy 50 lb or 80 lb bags of softener salts and walk as far as you can holding one bag in each hand. Google other variations of farmer walks. Planks. Plank progressively longer. Find progressions of the exercises you mentioned and just keep at it.

Great post. What is the reference for the Epictetus quote?

Good idea. I'm seeing that there are ways of dealing with this that don't have to result in a blowup and a huge issue.

You're right. I'm seeing that this resolving this clutter problem is something I could have done all along and should have.

I was trying to indicate that I'm not looking just to dump on her. I realize that my failure to lead at least contributed to her continuing to accumulate stuff and not deal with it. I'm taking responsibility for that failure and asking for help about how to be a better leader in this specific area. Thank you for the link.

Worst case = prob not as bad as I think. I'll tell her I'm going to throw things out if she doesn't get them picked up, and when I do, she'll throw a fit. But seeing I'm serious might serve as motivation...or put the nail in the coffin.

This is what I want to do, but I'm not sure how to handle the inevitable shitstorm just this statement will cause.

Great ideas. Step 1, done. Step 2, I will begin implementing tonight after I discuss it with her and let her know what we are doing. Step 3 is so common sense, I'm a bit embarrassed not to have done it yet. Will probably wait until after the holidays for stress levels, but will implement that step asap.

Good ideas. I do need to set boundaries and follow through with them. I like the idea of setting a time frame to get some clutter cleared out or I'll handle it myself.

Yes, I have. It's a major problem also with her mother, and, to some extent, her father, too. They compound it by offloading their junk to her, also. Of course, I've allowed that to happen.

Excellent. Thank you. I often fail at complimenting her when she has put in effort. I'm not rewarding the behavior I want.

No, I didn't count calories. I know I ate less because I cut out calorie-heavy carbs. I quit snacking in between meals. Now, I eat twice a day: lunch and dinner, with a drink at night and sometimes a small snack, too. Feel better, too. YMMV. This worked for me.

Same here. When I cut sugar and reduced grains I lost weight no matter how much fat/protein I ate. Starches (potatoes) are my weakness, though. Gary Taubes "Why We Get Fat" was an excellent resource for me on this.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
