Family law attorneysTrue but vindictive, litigious ex’s will hire attorneys who best reflect their personalities and objectives. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/06/26 01:39 AM
Is marriage dead ?Motivations, value systems and incentive structure have changed. We are living through a time of instant gratification. Mad at your spouse on a Tuesday? Slide into someone’s dm’s on a Wednesday. Bored in your current relationship? Hop on bumble, hinge, or one the other dozen dating apps that have turned dating into a soulless empty calorie satiation. People simply don’t have the intestinal fortitude to work through difficult times like the generation before this one and one before that. Add to t… | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/06/26 01:23 AM
Family law attorneysInteresting. I was going to build something like this that clients could use as an independent litmus layer to guide their case and keep attorneys honest. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/06/26 01:04 AM
Family law attorneysIf you are intentionally efficient with your clients’ money then you are in the minority. As far what courts put stock into, as I’m sure you know, it differs from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and judge to judge. Some judges will drag a case out hoping parties will eventually tire out and settle. Unfortunately the family court industrial complex seldom makes things better for anyone except attorney’s wallets. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/06/26 01:02 AM
Family law attorneysIs it like a bill pay platform or something more comprehensive? | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/06/26 08:54 PM
Family law attorneysThe funny part is some will position themselves as the tough talking, fist on the desk type that bulldoze opponents. Then you do some googling and find pictures of them at industry functions laughing and sipping cocktails with opposing counsel. | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/06/26 06:51 PM
Family law attorneysI think family law lawyers feed off that systemic ambiguity. There is nothing holding them accountable and typically they’re beyond protected by the terms and conditions in the retainer agreement, so clients have almost no recourse. I hate the predatory nature of it all and the downstream impact on outcomes. | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/06/26 05:47 PM
Family law attorneysI get that but if I’m doing 75% of the work, what I pay the attorney should reflect that. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way, at least in my experience. You pay the full retainer, keep replenishing it every month or so, while parallel path doing all those things you mentioned to keep the case from stagnating. It is a very manual and labor intensive process. As a client, I would want access to some tools and automation that can help keep things moving and both parties honest about how the mo… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/06/26 05:37 PM
Family law attorneysReviewing, drafting, and filing has become easier with AI but oral arguments and litigating in front of a judge is definitely not for the average person. My frustration is how there are no tools, no platforms, no analytics etc that could help clients stay informed on key aspects of their case. Like if my attorney is blowing through my retainer without moving the case forward, I’d want to see that in a CRM type platform, benchmarked against any publicly available data for similar cases. That way … | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/06/26 02:24 PM
Shocking trends with women and divorceAgreed. However, relationships are rooted in emotion. It is very difficult to see the forest through the trees when you're in the beginning and middle stages of a divorce. Then you layer in kids, assets, familial, social and professional considerations etc., it all adds up to be very overwhelming for a lot of folks. Where it can be slightly easier is if both parties are emotionally and psychologically similar with some shared values. Meaning no one is revenge-driven, both parties are secure and … | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/07/25 09:01 PM
Typical for Attorneys to Charge for ConsultationsAs an aside, it’s an effective strategy to call around and get consults with as many attorneys as you can (can afford) because once they consult with you, they can’t work with the opposing party. 4D chess. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/01/24 02:19 AM
Typical for Attorneys to Charge for ConsultationsHigher end attorneys charge, lower end ones don’t. Is the consultation typically worth the cost? In my experience, no. If you hire said attorney you will end up rehashing everything you told them during consult and they will end up asking you the same questions. Sometimes the consult fee may be waived if you were referred by a colleague or friend of the attorney. | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/01/24 11:55 PM
Constant custody violationsI’ve been in constant litigation with ex over last 5 years. 50/50 custody. Some of the issues are similar to yours, including order violations, false police reports and petitions for OoP, etc. Essentially, she’s significantly moneyed and runs to her attorney and court constantly instead of addressing issues directly. My honest advice is use attorneys as long as you can afford them. Don’t use shitty attorneys. A lot of what you’re dealing with will depend on the judges and their relationships wit… | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/01/24 08:23 PM
