How are those two scenarios any different? Something something social norms, not enough paternity leave or female board members, followed by legislation that restricts freedom. The issue they're trying to avoid is that the mother will take all of the optional days not because she desires time with the baby more than the father but because of poorly founded, unfair social norms. I completely understand the issue, I'm just asserting that needlessly restrictive and gendered laws are not a good way …

I would, too. I think 6 weeks would be enough for me, and the rest of the time I'd want the mother to have. But maybe for someone else, their split would be different. The goal here should be to make it acceptable for men to take parental leave without punishing the ones who find that a more traditional arrangement is best for them.

If you want to be a fucking Nave SEAL, you have better be able to do a 500m swim like it's a walk in the park. A competent swimmer could easily do 500m in well under 6:30, even after a run.

NO women will pass them. Remember, the best female athletes in the world perform at about the same physical level (or less) of the best high school boys in the United States. There are men who make it pretty much right out of high school, and pretty much all of the elite athletes go on to play DI athletics (so the special ops selection pool is somewhat below that of elite high school athletics). So it's totally conceivable that some women will make it. Just not very likely. There's no need to bl…

I'm usually pretty critical of social engineering, but I can maybe see the point here. It just feels weird to mandate that a certain share of paid parental leave must be used by men. It sounds kind of like "40% of the company board must be women." I would almost feel better if every person were entitled to X days of leave, and then there were Y days allotted for the parents of each child to decide freely who will take them. Making gendered rules and regulations is contrary to the principles of e…

Female CEOs are much harder to find, because companies prefer to hire men That statement simply doesn't make sense. Female CEO's are paid more because they are more scarce than male CEO candidates, and when companies have the external goal (or government-mandated requirement, depending where you live) to hire female CEO's, they have to offer a higher price to get them. The labor market for executives has an artificially-bolstered demand for women, so the price goes up.

And how is there a fucking wage gap at the top of society?? Simple, mathematics. Men at the top of society only make 65.4 cents on the dollar for what women make. Sounds like a wage gap to me.

my child is entitled to $142 / month in child support. Considering the guy is not around for any emotional support, I think its shitty to think that he cant afford to pay this I won't pretend to know your exact circumstances, or the background of your relationship, but it sounds shitty. When you say that the system doesn't give a shit, is it because you've gone through the legal system to try summon him to court, or because he stopped paying and nothing has happened?

well my parents did it to me and they love me and would never do anything that would harm me This is huge. If you're old enough to be discussing children, then your boyfriend grew up in a world where circumcision was absolutely the status quo in American hospitals. The protocol was to do it unless the parents were adamant about not doing it, and even if they were, doctors would basically give a sales pitch about it (part of that is that the doc gets a pretty sweet kickback from every foreskin he…

Looks like they published an editor's note acknowledging the error. Well done on being civil, everyone. Furthermore, MundaneMatt actually raised a really good point about whatserface from the Monologues doing consulting on the script. shouldn't be on a list that designates them as a threat. But they are. They can and do maliciously destroy people's lives with false accusations. he really cannot afford to be seen as hurting her. Which affords him a lot of latitude, considering the public might only see 5% of the surface area of her body, and it's just him, her, and Reek in the bedroom. Besides, it's not like Joffery gave any fucks about hurting her. Sansa is perfectly aware of the protections her name gives her. To be fair, there was a pretty strongly implicit threat of violence. Both the character and the audience know full well that the Boltons are pretty ok with torturing the people who displease them. The only thing that seems to give her the agency that you hint at is the fact that Littlefinger gave her the choice to go to Winterfell and get married or not. Mostly that universities don't quite work that way. A professor of mathematics might teach a calculus class, but their specialty would be some active research area where they bring in grant money and advise PhD students. A "calculus professor" would probably be some adjunct (i.e. their job is strictly lecturing calculus classes.) And spoiler alert: they make about as much as 2nd grade teachers.

It makes perfect sense. We maintain lists of people who commit sex crimes so that, say, pedophiles don't end up as elementary school teachers, or rapists don't end up as caretakers of people in vulnerable positions. Why? Because we have decided that society has a right to know that those people have abused that privilege in the past and we want to prevent future transgressions. I wouldn't want to date a false rape accuser any more than I'd want my kid taught my a kiddie porn addict

I know we've all been over it, but it basically has to be stated for clarity: Rogers was never a part of any Men's Right's organization. He was a member of a group for men who attempted to become pickup artists and failed. The MRM has literally nothing to do with pickup artists. Moreover, nobody who has any sway at all within the MRM condoned any of his actions I expect, and hope, that there will be a tasteful memorial for the victims, and discussion will remain reverent.

My obsession with duality makes me think that if it is indeed true that women are naturally misandrist, than men must be naturally misogynist as well. The science says that women have a much stronger in-group bias than men. It's not perfectly correlated with misandry, but it's a start.

Classic case of sexism in video games. Those men are portrayed as mere playthings for the all-powerful female protagonist to lord her feminine superiority over them. The fact that all of the men are identical further reinforces society's treatment of men as interchangeable and faceless background decoration. \s Quick, someone call Anita Sarkeesian!

When I did my own research, a lot of the posts I saw were less about men's rights, and more focused on a hatred of feminism. I think most of the other posters did a good job addressing the other parts of your post. Why does it seem like we're just sitting around, bitching about feminism? Because it takes a fuck ton of effort to build something, and not very much effort for feminists to knock it down. Host a talk about men's issues? University of Toronto. female faculty members are less productive Holy shit. Clear discrepancies in publication rate between men and women appear very early in their careers and this has consequences for the subsequent citation of their work. I call Poe's law on this comment: I doesn't matter what really happened. All that matters is we live in a rape culture, so we need to believe every story, no matter how ridiculous and far-fetched, that comes out--assuming it's from people who claim to have been raped and/or sexually assaulted and/or bullied. Yup. The truth does not matter, because even if it's a lie, it's really the truth.

You make a good point. I think the implication is more that the people who are most loudly arguing for more women in STEM had a perfectly fine opportunity to do it themselves, but passed it up to do gender studies. For a better comparison, look up degrees in psychology or something like that. My whole deal is that the women who chose to do psychology and are perfectly happy with that decision and don't really factor into this argument at all. They are independent people who made decisions and ar…

Urinary tract infections can also be treated if they occur Exactly. Women get UTI's all the time, and no one's jumping them with a surgical blade. The HIV transmission thing may be true The reason for this is because an uncut penis head is a mucous membrane, and a cut penis is keratinized. That should be a huge red flag. When the benefit is that there's an extra layer of hard, dead cells preventing infections from getting in, it's pretty hard to argue that that doesn't affect sensitivity

Ok, here's the deal. FGM has 4 main types and about a dozen subtypes. These range from a clit prick or piercing (that later heal totally) to chopping off the clit and sewing the vaginal opening. By prevalence, FGM is heavily skewed towards the least severe types. The majority of FGM actually removes less skin and fewer nerve endings than circumcision. So, on a case by case basis, "which is worse" can very dramatically. FGM tends to be prone to complications, because it is more often performed in…

I'm actually fine with revisiting the standards (on principle, at least). It could very well be that there are a few tests in there that are considered good tests of general male fitness, but perhaps lack applicability and are hard for women. I'm upvoting you, because this isn't a bad post. You're allowed to think it looks better. You're allowed to encourage other people to get circumcised. You're allowed to shout to the heavens how wonderful it is. But understand that we're fighting against the entrenched position that routinely circumcising infants is right. This means that we have to combat the notion that the exact same reasons you love your penis are somehow sufficient to perform unnecessary surgery on infants.

The problem is that women vote as a bloc, but men don't. No one tries to court the male vote. And again, if Hildog runs on a gender platform, it's virtually a guaranteed win for her. Too many women will do literally anything to see a female in the white house, and too many men are still frantically looking for ways to torpedo their own rights to appease those women.

There can be a lot of confusion in conflating statistics. A lot of the numbers we tout are based in the same metrics that feminists like to use to incite moral panic. It's kind of our way of saying, "if we stoop to your shoddy statistics that 1 in 5 women are raped, we can show that 1 in 4 men are raped." Except everything except the last clause is implied. The truth is that rape, to the extent that felony charges are actually warranted, is quite rare, and does have a gendered slant. I guess a l…

You already stated that the skewed admissions are done to promote what MIT considers to be a "good community" with a large enough applicant pool to allow this practice without a supposed drop in quality of student. Now you're arguing that admissions aren't actually skewed and that it's somehow both a meritocracy as well as a black box community selection procedure?

I'm going to try to show you why that argument is bad. I've encountered this argument a number of times before, and it boils down to the fact that you have accepted as gospel what someone else's definition of an ideal community is (probably because you agree with it, it benefits you, or both). You see the university taking reasonable steps towards achieving a "good community." I see someone or some group unilaterally deciding that some people are worth more than others in forming what they see a…

the difference is that the association between pua and mgtow for example, is entirely fabricated. No one in either movement will even claim that their goals are the same. That's actually been well-documented with black affirmative action. If every black student gets admitted to places above their actual level, then nearly all of them are surrounded by more adept and better prepared peers. The unfortunate consequence is that many of them fail out- more so than if every student ended up at the appropriate institution. In regards to men and college, I don't want men to get affirmative action. You can't fix the consequences of 13 years in a flawed schooling system by…

The larger effect was that this system sets up a massive wealth transfer from men to women. The law stipulates that men and women have to pay the same, despite the fact that men are financially much cheaper to insure and indeed consume less healthcare. So men have seen their rates go up to subsidize the women who are now paying less. The ACA is an abomination to men's rights.

The WEALTHY were formally educated... And as feminists will gleefully point out, history is dotted with a number of exceptional women. But I still feel like running a campaign against violence with donations going to the site is sort of on the same grounds as the Susan Komen people. Sure, there's a well-defined endgame, and some progress is made through the donation, but I would rather donate to AVFM directly to support them, and if there was a campaign where donations went directly to anti-violence work, donate to that. If a woman is poor and only meets equally poor or poorer men, she's in a tough spot. It is no secret that many women do not choose to marry if the available partners will make their economic situation worse. That may be the most hypergamy-dripping thing I've ever read.

Eh, I wouldn't phrase it so explicitly, but it's not uncommon for people to see their own conduct as "a special case that's ok" somehow when it flies in the face of their own beliefs. I don't have time to find the article right now, but a staggering number of people who get abortions, remain pro-life, but insist that their own abortion was a "rare special case where it was ok"

It's really not that hard to understand. Feeling sexy and desired is FUN, and I can't really fault women for liking that. The whole 'objectification' thing comes from the person being desired not being themselves. It's kind of like how when you're single, couples in public just seem disgusting, but when it's you with your partner, it seems totally fine.

One thing I have noticed in a lot of the bits he does is that he takes a self-denigrating approach, almost as a preamble. I'll retract that it's strictly worse, but as a graduate of a tech school, I can assure you that it's far from a hysteria-free environment. A while back, at a public info session, a Toronto cop suggested 'not dressing like a slut' might reduce your chance of victimization. Tactful? Probably not. True? Likely. Shitstorm? Thorough. As far as I can tell, the Toronto cop's comments are where this whole thing comes from. It's because she doesn't want to. . Now it's my turn to ask: Where's your proof of this? There's one more subtle difference to notice here. I assert a hypothesis while emphasizing questions. You assert a conclusion. I thought you were a scientist. The postulate here is that the hypothetical girl understands that she is capable of e…

The fact that you immediately attribute trends to biology is also telling. I'm not saying, 'not your thing, it's definitely biology,' I'm saying you've assumed a cause and I'm offering another plausible one. Citation required The duplicate X-chromosome has a stabilizing effect on female phenotypes, whereas men with only one X chromosome are more subject to deleterious mutations (i.e. colorblindness). Generally females have fewer recessive disorders than men, or are at lower risk. Show an IQ bias…

Can you be very specific here? What EXACTLY do you mean when you say "male genome" ? Keep in mind that women have higher allelic diversity than men. Excuse me, phenotypic variance. Womens' higher allelic diversity has a stabilizing effect against recessive traits (i.e. colorblindness). Ok, lets assume that this is true. Then you're going to have to explain why chemistry, biology, biochemistry, and environmental sciences are mostly female now (even at the graduate level). Honestly, I don't know. …

The question is, "What about being a female in today's society leads young women to prefer the humanities and undervalue both STEM fields and their potential in those fields?" The fact that you refuse to even consider biology is very telling. It's pretty well known that the male genome has higher variance. (More savants, more mental retardation, more dwarfs, more giants). No contradiction there. The people pushing for women in STEM only care about the enrollment numbers. It's a classic equality of opportunity vs outcomes, except in this case the equal outcome means you have women doing something they don't really like and the men not allowed to do what they like. It's a lose-lose. The difference between me and what it seems you believe is that if you went up to every girl in America and told them in no uncertain terms, "this is what a science career is like, if y…

Getting more women into STEM fields should be a goal of feminism No, it shouldn't. The goal should be that everyone who is interested has a chance to try to make it. If you try to get a girl into science and she doesn't like it, it doesn't mean you failed to "get more women into STEM," it means you succeeded at offering someone the option.

As a male, I have never been in a situation where I thought I would be raped How about in a situation where you thought you were going to die? I'd reckon it's a similar feeling and it happens to men a lot more often. I've lived a pretty sheltered life, but I've still had a gun pointed at me by someone who wished me harm. I'll also address another part of what you said: The problem is that while not all men are the problem, all women have to fear the problem Similarly, most everyone fears getting mugged. To be perfectly honest, mental handicaps are strongly correlated with maleness, and that's going to be the case no matter how good we may become at teaching boys. Why? It has to do with biology, but typically men will exhibit much larger variance in mental abilities, and statistically tend to dominate the extremes of the spectrum. Generally speaking, most philosophers agree that a basic human right is the ability to reproduce, or not, according to one's own wishes. At the most basic level, if you want kids, you find a mate and make some. If you don't, then you have a right to maintain proprietary ownership over your genetic material. Ideally, choosing to exercise one's right to not reproduce, yet maintain sexual activity, means using some form of birth control. Of course, birth control can fail, and as several unfortunate…
