There the point of prison is to rehabilitate prisoners to help make them functioning members of society. Very rarely is it used to describe a prisoner on death row. This is more of a personal opinion, but I see the death sentence as a much more severe punishment. Every crime is very different. Even if two people both stole something of the same value, they could get very different sentences depending on what happened. One sentence may be longer than another, but the judge chooses what they see fit. Our justice system is far from perfect, but for most people it provides fair punishments.
