Agreed! I post things like this because I want to inspire those on this board to get out there and explore. Being out in nature and seeing the amazing sights to be seen helps me to cement my decision to go my own way. Leaving women behind, working on your physique, and building wealth are all important; but once you have moved yourself forward on your path I think it is important to push yourself out into the wilderness to explore.

The setup that I would recommend to get started is a tripod (any will do, as long as it's sturdy), a Sony A6000 (you can get these for $300-400 used), and a Samyang 12mm F2.0 lens (Around $300). That was the setup I used for a while until I was ready to upgrade.

Mostly Youtube, I researched the hell of out of Cameras and finally decided on which brand to go with. Then headed over to youtube to see how other people were doing it and slowly learned the right way to do it. Once you get the hang of it you can really start to do some interesting things with it. The added perk of astrophotography is it makes you really good at low-light photography in general because you really get to understand the camera and how to light subjects.

I used a Sony A7Riii. You have to have a good tripod and a remote trigger (or use the self timer function) to get a really good long exposure.

I'm actually planning an Alaska trip to try and get some good shots, enjoy the landscape, and maybe capture the northern lights. Going from 100+ degrees to Alaska is going to be quite a temperature swing haha.

You'll be able to see it from pretty much anywhere in the park. Make sure to let your eyes adjust to the darkness, use a red headlamp or red flashlight. The Milky Way will look different at different times of the day, and different months of the year.

I think about that every time I'm out in the woods, how many people are born, live, and die without getting a chance to see something that is over their heads every single night. I'm looking into doing the Arizona trail too! Just started getting my backpacking setup dialed in for Havasupai next year.

I love it. I got mine second hand from a photographer friend who is a Cannon guy and didn't want to invest in Sony lenses. It has a lot of great features for the price and is light enough to hike with when backpacking. Even at full price ($600ish) I think it's worth it. Wifi connectivity is great, you can transfer photos right to your phone.

I live in the valley, so always down to explore Flagstaff and soak up some cooler weather in the summer. Helps when you have a hot tent! Y'all get some crazy temperature swings up north.

We wanted to kayak Blue Ridge Reservoir before it closed for the season. Ended up finding a great site down 95. Coordinates are roughly 34.5571489, -111.1637235 . Please note there are bears, coyotes, and elk around so arm yourself accordingly.... benefit of being in Arizona hah. You'll love this area, it's really an incredible spot to explore.

I'm jealous! I moved out to AZ almost 6 years ago, the Sedona with tour buses and roundabouts is the only version I know. At least if you are willing to go off the beaten path there are still gems without the crowds.

The D5300 is a great rig, my issue is understanding what lenses I need to add. My plan right now is to go after a niche skill within photography (Like the Astro Photography I've been doing) and as I learn about that niche I fill in my gear around it.

Sort of, it depends on the light pollution. When I go out deep into the desert into a "dark sky site" you'll see pretty much what you see in the photo. In a place like Sedona where the light pollution is there but not high you'll faintly see the milky way, but the camera will pick up a great deal more. In the main city you won't see shit. I haven't tried HDR yet. This is a single long exposure shot. Fstop 2.8, 30 second exposure, and then I play with the ISO to get a good balance of stars and photo quality.

I'm not sure about those two. But Jupiter is on the right side of the milkyway and Saturn is on the left. At least from AZ at the time this was taken. Take that with a grain of salt I'm using an app and it might not be 100% accurate.

Pretty much hit it right on the head. Was with my Ex for 9 years and every July 4th was spent at a terrible party with people I didn't like. I've never gotten chills watching fireworks before until this time, made me just look up in awe and think "Man... life is pretty great".

The full setup is quite a list. But in the photo I have a BioLite firepit (I used to work for them in NYC, they make fantastic products), a kelty pop-up double wide camping couch so the pup can cuddle, and a REI coop folding camping table.

Thanks for the tips brother! I've backpacked most of my camping career so car camping will make bringing warmer gear a lot easier. I'm in desperate need for the clear night sky, I finally got a real camera for the first time and I'm hoping to capture some beautiful shots.

I'm not too familiar with Tucson aside from a great steak spot called "Churro Steak", the Senora Arizona preserve is also a neat spot. If you have the time I would definitely suggest going to Sedona or Payson and camping there. I'm thinking of doing the "End of the world" camping area soon.
