Stop imagining that women can or should be owned. You shouldn't need any defense at all. If he's bothering the girl, she should be able to tell him so herself, or at worst ask you to tell him off. If not, don't worry about it. People don't belong to each other, and there's plenty of fish in the sea if "your" girl falls for some playa.
