In Germany, the non Custody holding parent gets the child support paid on their behalf by the state. Then the state chases the said non paying parent once state payments stop. They will deduct those payments from them, should they ever get a stately allowance again I.e. job seekers allowance (ALG in Germany).

you gotta think about the fact that if you want custody, would you be ok with reducing the hours you work? Cos I tell you for certain, them hours arent gonna cut it if you are a single dad (I guess you knew that tho). ok, i don't know how much influence the mother has over her child or how often she sees him/her. it would be good to know if she makes an active effort and actually sees her child more than you do at the moment. cos if you go for a contact order and get the days written out in black and white and signed by a judge, you might find that she will increase her efforts to see her kid more and make out that that's what she has done all along. that sounds good in practice. In theory, they can turn around and deny you whatever contact you want which makes it difficult in court to argue. I would prefer/suggest to have a solid, black and white evidence that you have contact hours that have been approved. If you then carry on and experience major difficulties you are able to take it back to court with the argument that your visitation rights have been violated. I think it matters because it shows that you have been doing someting towards paying the upkeep of your child. Are you the registered father as in, are you on the birth certificate?

I lived separated from the mum. We both have parental rights. One day after his school the mother sent the grandparents to pick the little man up. Where is the child in all this? ? ? If it is the grandparents that are looking after the child then as a father, you should have parental rights. Provided his name is on the birth certificate. Not sure about the US but I got all this shit sorted through a social worker. They analysed her, got her diagnosed with mental health problems, and reported all the findings by professional in a nicely set out document for the courts of which I have a copy of. In the UK we have 30 mins free time when we first meet solicitors. This gives you a good feel if you get on with your solicitor and its a good moment to get the main points of a story across. Is there something in the states that helps you afford the legals costs? In the uk there is something called legal aid. This is soon to be pahzed out.
