I feel like there's probably more to combat than sheer lifting strength -- reaction time, group dynamics, fast tactical thinking... those are all factors that I'm reasonably sure have less correlation with sex, or sometimes in favor of women.

Handfasting. It's a neat idea -- marriage is something that has to be renewed and maintained at an interpersonal level anyway.

Trying to determine its sexuality at the tender age of two or three? No, the point is that no one should have to be forced to choose a gender identification. In an ideal world, the kid would not have to worry about it until it developed those concepts.

The kid has a biological sex, but not a gender identification.

Ha! Fair point. And... I guess we learned something from it. :-/

Right, Reimer is the one who had a gender forced on... him. The kid in the article is being given a choice of gender. "Not having been assigned a gender" is being forced on the kid, sure. I think it may be an important experiment, though.

And what better way to "leave the kid alone" than not forcing a gender on them? :-) (Playing devil's advocate; I haven't formed an opinion of the correctness of the approach yet.)

I don't see what feminism has to do with it. It sounds like she's just a person who is experiencing some culture shock, and discovering her learned assumptions.

Even then, he'd still be violating wiretap laws. Laws aside, what he did is in an ethical gray zone. I can't necessarily fault him for his actions, but she does have grounds for being quite upset.

I don't agree, but this is all tangential; she signed no contract giving him the right to use her passwords.

Doesn't matter. If I check my email on a public library computer, that doesn't give them the right to capture my credentials and log in as me.

People have a basic right to privacy. You don't waive that by marrying someone.

the goal for women in general is control men's sexuality. What kind of weird women do you know?

Well, stop it now. Also, don't have sex with anyone else. Either can probably be used against you.

I think this falls under "don't stick it in the crazy". Woman B sounds like your standard slightly unstable stalker/fan.

I think that's a poor analogy. There are several factors here: Offensiveness of material Ease of removal from sensorium Risk of accidental re-exposure Where it is on the continuum of push vs. pull delivery Number and age of those who might be exposed Personal-ness (in person, from a distance, telecast, bidirectional telecast) I believe that exposing yourself to people at the library vs. broadcasting "indecent" material on TV are different enough situations that different responses are warranted.…

If he was wearing short shorts and, uh, "arranged himself" intentionally, I can totally see that being grounds for an indecent exposure charge. I don't think he should get anywhere near the maximum punishment, but c'mon, it's a fucking library, people are trying to study. Edit: I just want to add that I agree that freeballing is totally legit in my book. I have a lot of friends who wear kilts! (They're mindful of flashing, though.)

For hysterical raisins, of course. Essentially, it was named at a time when the push for gender equality was mostly focused on how much it sucked to be a woman. The term still has that connotation, but has begun to merge with "egalitarianism".

Exactly: As the OP implied, sexism against women becomes sexism against men, and vice versa.

Not the right picture. :-P Seriously though, we don't have enough info on this story.

No. How can you even think that's logical? "There are many As among the Bs. I hate As." -> does not imply I hate Bs.

Still not the same.

12 is marginal. I believe the line is drawn at the onset of puberty, but that varies wildly (and is a gradual transition too.) Anyway, what really matters is emotional maturity, which isn't measured in years. Can't tell from the article. One of the interesting points raised in the article was how these experiences shape the boy's sexual attraction later in life. I believe that my own body type and personality preferences were strongly influenced by the teenage and young adult women I was around …

I'm surprised that pedophiles are viewed with not just understanding, but sympathy when the abuser is female and the victim is a young boy. A couple comments: This article wasn't about pedophilia (with the possible exception of the 12yo boy), but rather ephebophilia. Very real difference. With ephebophilia, as the article points out, male victims are less affected on the whole. Note the bit about "what is wrong vs. what is harmful". I mean, clearly the kids are affected, and there are some power…

Ugh, I hate that too. It's a mob mentality.

Ah, I think I see your point re: "chivalrous" now -- that that particular demand could only be used by a female and of a male.

Your title is very misleading. 1) She's just sniping at the guy, 2) There was no "sexual affection" to withdraw (unless you know something I don't), and 3) She isn't being a hypocrite in the body of the article either -- she hardly even talks about the post she is "responding to" (which is the only criticism I could find in a quick read.)

To me, the only relevant portion of the story is this: the kind of encounter that can only exist between a woman and a man That's a valid point. The bar is a place where women are in less danger of physical assault than men are, perhaps because of social taboos against men attacking women in a fight. (I have a friend who wore a Yankees cap into a Red Sox bar during a big game, and she made friends with everyone there, instead of getting beat up. Was that female privilege?) I know all women don't…

And more power to him to share his story -- but this is an odd place to do it. /r/MensRights already has a (somewhat deserved) reputation for women-hating, and this story doesn't help. Yes, the women were the jackasses in the story, but posting it here reads (to me) as "Jeez, women are bitches, amirite?" This is Men's Rights, not Men Crying About Douchebags.

I'm aware of that situation (though I have never experienced it myself), but the only hint of it here was the "why can't you be chivalrous?" line. I read that as "I'm a douchebag, and I'm gonna troll you."

Yes, the bit about getting in worse physical shape was definitely disturbing. I think I misunderstood you before—we're probably more in agreement about this than I thought.

I'd say that the measures she's taking seem a little extreme. Sounds like you've never had chronic anxiety, panic attacks, or PTSD. I've had a taste of this from some persistent stressors at one point in my life, and I can imagine how she feels. I'm not going to fault you for not understanding—it's something you have experience in, or not. But you should be thankful for her words of explanation.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
