I noticed you're getting downvoted but I just wanted to pipe in as a dude and say that there are a lot of issues with gender stereotypes both ways and you've brought up some good points, most which would be null if both people in a straight relationship were able to mutually abandon these expectations. A large portion of what you've brought up are not true as problems for my relationship and I think people could benefit from discussing these kinds of things when pursuing a new relationship. It s…

Why does this exist? Am I supposed to feel afraid to be within several feet of any woman now? Why are males considered suspicious?

This video is a good example of issues with traditional gender roles. I think both feminists and men's rights advocates will agree that this is caused by society's perception of women as non-aggressors. However, the incorrect thought process is that a woman beating a man is tolerable because women in the past weren't able to. This is what leads to men being abused and men not being taken seriously when being reported as being abused by women. Which, in turn, leads to statistics of men as abusers…

I have posted that exact disclaimer before. You're right, it's stupid, but it actually prevents the really common situation of your point being disregarded because you're a man and the community is mainly for women. This has happened before and sometimes the male perspective is considered invalidated. Sigh. I realize now how stupid the whole thing is and that I'm continuing something that shouldn't be happening.

not the best video/narrator/examples but an important issue in advertising. I don't think you can watch television without seeing something like this.

Thanks. I know it's not popular here to talk positively about feminism, but I have well-intentioned friends on reddit and in "real life" who acknowledge some of the more shocking men's rights stories and double standard situations as being huge issues. These are people who identify as being feminist. I have trouble treating them like enemies because I think they're just like me, trying to overcome the barriers that affect them and their gender, and they just happen to have fallen into a bigger a…

Thank you for posting this. I am very interested in discussing gender roles and it's difficult because the most common forum for such discussions is often one mainly concerned with feminism. The reason this is difficult is because when trying to make arguments that both genders face unfair stereotyping, I am often shunned as having an unimportant perspective (this "othering" described in the article) or accused of trying to derail a feminist discussion (the "what about the menz" described in the…

maybe it's just where I live, but it's not based on amount of hair and I know a lot of short-haired girls who have to pay way more than me to get a haircut. that being said, it also somehow takes like 1-2 hours for them and maybe 20 minutes for me, so based on time invested, it's fair... still, I think these kinds of thing should be decided without gender-based rationalizations

|So, after all of that, I am asking you to stop being dicks about the things you don't like. Stop being bigots, stop derailing conversation, start moving forward. Don't you mean to rephrase this using appropriate language, rather than assuming that I am a bigot or a dick?

While I understand what you said, I do not share the same opinion. Some aspects: -Does he deserve the public shaming from millions of people? That seems worse than losing his job or going to jail. -It's socially acceptable to publicly shame a man who has failed. People are much more forgiving to women who have failed. Would a woman in the same position be treated with the same amount of scorn? -When you're possibly about to die, I think that priorities are a little different than what a job desc…

I am just surprised how the average person sees it fit to vehemently criticize the captain. I'm sure if I was on a sinking boat, things falling, people screaming, scared out of my mind, then managed to get into a lifeboat, that my life would be the most important thing at the moment. I don't deny that the crew should be fit to handle emergencies but it's like... nobody on the internet was there to experience it and yet they're tearing this guy apart in a way that seems similar to the anti-gay ma…

I've been doing a lot of thinking on this topic and I agree with you. social tradition dictates that a man ask a woman to marry her and to present her with an engagement ring. this act itself is that of inequality - the man being in a position of more "wealth" and the woman being in a position to say yes or no. and this system makes it even more difficult for gay couples to participate. I would much rather that marriage was a mutual consensus decision with no symbolic exchange. that being said, …

This rule is ridiculous, but it also sort of sucks that girls aren't really targeted to get on teams. Not the fault of the school, but the fault of a lot of things, and it's good to draw attention to. Just not the responsibility of the school to fix or to punish others in an attempt to fix.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
