Knowing what we know about the Isla Vista tragedy, it's obvious that these people created the petition out of ignorance and not malice. The answer is for us to calmly and rationally inform others with the readily available evidence.

For clarity's sake, here's a direct quote from this subreddit's FAQ: "The Mens Rights Movement supports equality and social rights for people of all genders, but we focus primarily on the often neglected needs of men, boys, and their children." You stated correctly that the MRM focuses on men's issues, but it is still a pro-equality movement, as is feminism. From a moderate standpoint, neither should disagree with the aims of the other.

You did a pretty thorough job. MR has nothing to do with the terrible choices of the killer. Everything I've seen thriving on this sub comes from a moderate, non-misogynistic viewpoint. The same cannot be said for TRP, unfortunately. This is not to say that they are responsible for the tragedy, but there's a lot of anti-woman invective to be found in their sub.

Every author is going to have a bias, but this author allowed that bias to get in the way of honest journalism. Ignorance can have dangerous consequences.

The author of this article was ignorant, but ignorance does not excuse libel of an entire group. I think it's best for us if we view this article as coming from a place of misinformation rather than malice as we move forward.

It's so frustrating, because the two are so clearly different.

I'm confused, dude. Couldn't you say the same thing about men's rights activists? Doesn't that just turn it into a standoff where both sides say, "Well, I will if you will!" It's a shame that people of different sexes with the same goals sometimes get sidetracked by semantics.

In my experience, moderate MR activists have the same desires for equality as moderate feminists. Extremists from either camp are going to have misguided views about the true intent of their movement.

Dude, I have to imagine that projecting is not voluntary. In the case of a battered man, wouldn't you understand if he wanted to be in an all-male environment while recovering?

I suspect that would be borne out of ignorance more than malice. Still highly unfortunate.

This is an important lesson in the responsibility both parties have to prevent pregnancy and a great reason for the continued development and testing of male birth control (so sorry that it didn't come in time for you, man). Unfortunately, trusting others leaves one vulnerable- that's just the human condition. Is she determined to raise the child, or is adoption a possibility?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
