I have been seeing a few farmers abandoning artificial fertilizers and using animal manure to fertilize their crops. In addition, to avoid using pesticides, they mix different crops in the same plot to " confuse" the pests. It works very well. It's cumbersome, I admit, but such practices may reverse the effects of such over cultivated land, landen with toxic soup lying beneath them.

My teacher who taught us research methods was a woman. She was good at statistical data but the inferences she made, particularly the concept of cause and effect and correlations was weirdly very counter intuitive.
