Good for you! I got some aligners too but I just can't bring myself to wear them the way I'm supposed to :( they are so uncomfortable.

This I love! I did this once but I don’t always think that quickly.

I had a friend when I was growing up whose entire family was hyphenated. I'm making up example names, but let's say her dad's name was Johnson and her mom's name was Smith. Both parents became Dad Johnson-Smith and Mom Johnson-Smith, and my friend was Friend Johnson-Smith. This made so much sense to me and I did not realize until I was much older that people don't typically do this. I thought it was the perfect way to keep both parents names in the picture, but the family also shared one last na…

Men going forward must have at least a bachelor's degree and some kind of regular salaried job. It must be a career where there is room for advancement and space for them to find success. Since my career is not super highly paid, they should honestly make more money that me. He needs to also have some broader interests, music, literature, art, history, science, food even, something more than drinking, playing videogames, or sports.

I have heard in very religious Christian communities this is the norm, and in part, it's to keep women from talking about how good or bad they have it. It keeps them from making comparisons and realizing how bad their situation might be, and takes away their possibility to ask for help. Keeps them trapped.

This kinda reminds me of the saying, "if the ladies don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." I know very few truly handy guys these days... I can't believe this is considered such ground-breaking advice though. Like wow guys! You should just get better haircuts and wear clean, well-fitting clothes. Well of course....

I agree with all of these. The first that comes to mind that I would add to this list is photos with his mother. I have dated guys who were very close to their moms, and usually their moms just wound up being too involved. It makes me uncomfortable. I love my dad but it would never even cross my mind to use a photo with my dad on my dating profile.

I'm an American but with southern European heritage, and my little brother was/is the golden child. Everything he did was funny and endearing, and his preferences were typically honored. My parents simply trusted him to the hilt because he was a boy. He did a bunch of awful stuff to his first girlfriend in high school that would not have been possible without my parents trust in him and general permissiveness; harassing her to take him back when she ended their relationship, suicide threat, etc.…

I heard once that “a man who raises his voice to you will eventually raise his hand to you”, and I’m not about to stick around for that. So scary and true.

True, definitely true. I have also considered moving out of the city because I don’t think this is a good place to have children. But I just fear it would be so lonely moving away from here alone. I have gotten used to a lot of things in the city, the convenience, the activities, general excitement, the diversity, proximity to airports, you name it. Part of me can’t imagine having to buy a car again, and not having a 24 hour grocery store or pharmacy, among other things. It’s a good place to be …

I used to disagree with this but this is so true. I have male "friends" I guess but they are work people who I only see in a group context. I see them at parties and we are friendly, but I have never hung out with any of them alone. I certainly don't call them when I am having problems or anything like that. And yes, I had that experience in my early 20s when I realized that all of my male "friends" were orbiters, actually trying to date me or sleep with me. I hated to admit it, but it is a red …

I have lived in NYC for just over 5 years and it's been an adventure. I did meet a long term boyfriend here who was high value in a lot of ways, but we just weren't a good match. The last few guys I went out with did all the right things at least, paid for dinner, were respectful of my boundaries, etc. But I have wondered if I need to move out of the city to find a husband. I just turned 32. I have had better luck dating guys who are not American born, they often take better care of themselves a…

One time a guy asked me to meet him at a modern trendy seeming Italian place. When I got there, I realized it was actually the restaurant of a hotel. I thought that was a little weird but not a deal breaker (now I realize it was kinda gross to be at a hotel like that). He came and met me at the door took me to what I assumed was going to be our table. On our walk, he shared with me that we were actually going to his co-worker's birthday party. I was like, what? So it was super awkward. We went u…
