You just try to focus on your object of meditation(breath,sound,etc) and when thought appears, you see it that your attention is with thoughts, immediately without judgement, you bring it back again to your object of meditation. There is nothing as ignoring in mental realm. There is only focus. You cannot ignore, suppress or silence your thoughts. Just like removal of topic from conversation is not talking negately about it.
