Would I be better off getting a surrogate and then a nanny? Only if you're very wealthy, or live in a third world country where labor is very cheap. Otherwise, you can expect to pay well over 100k per year for the first years to a live-in nanny who's on call 24/7 (or, more likely, two nannies - one for night and one for day). You'll continue to need a nanny later on, when the kid is a grade schooler, but just one nanny will do then since they'll sleep through the night and be at school 6-7 hours…

I think requiring receipts is totally reasonable to make sure CS isn't abused. That said, I think you're vastly underestimating the costs of raising your daughter. Difference in rent between a studio apt and the 2+ bedroom apartment she has to have if your daughter lives with her - that could easily be over 1k/mth if you live in a HCOL. Childcare/afterschool/preschool/babysitter costs if your daughter is under ~13yo. Food, drink other than water Utility cost differences for 1 vs. 2 people (elect…

Right. Don't tell them at all when they're young and certainly not in the terms of "mommy hurt daddy." My mom shielded my sister and I from our dad's (many) affairs all through our childhoods. We found out as young adults and even then she was very matter-of-fact about it, sympathetic to him, and clear that she didn't want this to mean we stop loving our dad. She did divorce him after affair #8 or 9, I believe, but she absolutely took the high road and protected us, the kids, from his bad behavi…

The kids issue alone is enough to divorce over. You're 31. If you divorce now, take a year to heal/date around, another year to find the right one, remarry another year or two after that, you'll be ready to try for kids around 34/35 years old and have your (first?) kid at 35/36. That's great. If you procrastinate the inevitable split you're just pushing your timeline later and later. You'll be an older dad with less energy for your kids (and less time on earth with them). Further, the longer you…

You must have had a very easy baby! Not snark, I'm genuinely happy for you (and jealous). For a lot of us, a small baby is waaaay harder than a big kid because: wakes up every few hours during the night and needs to be soothed back to sleep can't feed themselves not potty-trained (blow-outs!) can't play independently yet, but old enough to get bored so you're a full-time entertainer/playmate/clown for every. waking. minute or they'll cry and you'll feel like a shitty parent (this is the hardest …

When did you realize she wasn't the one? Did anything in particular happen?

That's rough. Was she ever a good mom? When did that change and do you know why? We're doing gentle parenting, but we're less than 1.5 years in so I hope we're able to keep up being the sort of loving, warm parents we want to be.

Wow, years? It sucks she strung you along after she was over the marriage, that's really not okay.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
