you're kind and youd probably say that nut its is what it is. you struggles in dealing with someone with mh are very real and as you said previously, if you were aware youd have made different choices. itd be a continuation of my selfishness if i was okay with making someone have to bare with that just so i could find myself in a relationship. take care.

please dont apologise, the alternative would have been me carrying on with my delusions that i could ever be a decent partner to someone so it might not feel good but its thr truth and i appreciate you for it. :)

i mean yeaa, i 100% agree with that point hence why youve convinced me that hey, we are better of alone instead of bring someone down because of our mh issues. my apologies for being so dense and all understanding now.

the mental health is just going to go away tho. thats not how that works lol. to paraphrase you and the redditors "being with someone with mental health isnt easy" they didnt say untreated or whatever so given that its a life time acheivement, mh, best to accept my lot and deal with it.

given that im more likely to be the individual with mh i guess i should just accept the reality that im no good in relationships.

if mh isnt a guarantee for hurt, why would you advise your kids to not date someone with mh? i feel like your scenario is a completely different example. id say its like telling your kids to avoid kids who play rough but then when you kids become the ones who play rough, you dont inform the other parents of you beliefs about rough play and that your kids play rough. i also dont mean anything unkindly. i think your kids best intrests at heart and im not trying to disparage or speak against that. …

seems like a lot of mental gymnastics or rather that you're okay with your kids causing harm in ways you'd be avoidant of by your logic

you arent involved in his life but are certain he'd not be a good partner. okay. im pretty sure you have been greatful if the grandma had spoke up at the beginning tho, but for you and yours despite knowing youd have appreciated an earlier warning its okay. this is not about care for your kids, im not asking or suggesting you care about the mental health of other kids as you do your own, simply pointing out that you have a different measuring stick for you and yours, the things you yourself woul…

you dont see how thats hypocritical tho? your kids despite potential MH issues are allowed to get into a relationship and then if the outcome is bad you step in whereas other kids having metal health concerns are immediately written off? why should you not protect other kids from your own if they carry something that you see as potentially harming? like you said, shoutout to the grandma and aunt of your ex who implored you to leave him but for you and yours its okay to lure someone into swomethi…

when i asked if youd be a hypocrite or sit down and tell your kids partners that they should walk away, you said you are there for them and are supportive of them and have thought them how to deal with MH but anyone else its "its easier to walk away before any investment" im not of the impression that MH is easy to deal with but on the topic of your own you're granting a level of understanding that you dont grant others because im certain you'd not implore your kids to stay single because they a…

unless he's trying to marry yesterday or we are saying hat he's the only 30 year old who's not got their life together idk. you earlier comment proclaimed you'd encourage your kids not to date anyone with MH issues but now you're adding nuance so either you too understand that there's a lot of context to someone with MH or you don't grant that level of context to anyone you don't have a intimate bond with.

sounds like slapping your kid and telling them the world isn't going to be kind to them so deal with it lol. i think you're centering your relationship ideals, if your brother were talking about wanting to get married immediately, due to his financial status I'd agree with you that yea he's a terrible candidate. you specified bad partner and I feel like your projecting you marriage dynamics onto dating. also sidenote, give that your husband himself has mental issues, are you prepared for a reali…

I didn't say that people with mental health issues shouldn't be in relationships but I wouldn't advise my kids to date some with mental health issues/wouldn't have been with my husband if I knew what their MH was like. I feel like you are aware of what it's sounds like and you just don't want that put on you despite advocating for it. id never advocate for anyone to be in a relationship with someone they don't want to be with regardless of the reasons but it's doesn't mean it ain't what it is.

I was on your side😭 folks with mental health issues shouldn't be in relationships now. I guess. ion think anything I say would be worthwhile to either of us. take care tho.

the question then becomes do you think your brother is the only financially unstable person at the moment or is he only attract to financially stable individuals? there's no one with similar circumstances as his or those people ought not be desiring romantic companionship? obvs you are in a different situation and like I said I'm probably projecting and thus will defend your brother's position because hit dogs as was said but yes it's his own doing and his own fault but the idea of just work suc…

hit dog goin holler but I find there to be a dissonance is saying your brother wouldn't make a good partner but then your view of a good partner being someone who is caring within their capacity unless the movies, concerts etc are a standard and not a feature. fair enough if you have traditional relationship goals of a home and starting a family, then financial security is like of utmost importance but ion know I guess either you think that financial stability is important for both partners or t…

what in your opinion makes a good partner?

im probably showing concerning amounts of not having a life but I was thinking about and, people deserve to feel safe so me trying to express how I feel the intent wasn't harmful disregards the feeling of safety. while I might not necessarily agree that said action carries negative connotation, if people are expressing that the action feels like its leading to harm in anyway then my thoughts on the matter are irrelevant. people feeling not safe is enough to agree that the action is fallible.

ion know, maybe me expressing the opinion is indicative of male brain I guess, but to me the statement of, "to continue pursuing a relationship I desire sexual engagement" is a neutral opinion because one individual has stated what they are looking for and the other individual now is aware of what the other is looking for and they cad decide for themselves whether or not they are aligned or even feel comfortable to continue interactions with the other individual. if we are making it purely a con…

question? hypothetically speaking, if you are talking to a guy and you mention that you don't date guys who split the bill, would you hold the same opinion. I absolutely agree that consent is fluid and needs constant updating and that earlier verbalisation of consent is not a free pass for all. however, labeling an "hey these are my expectations" as rapey feels like weaponisiation.

where in "no one wants to be desired for labour" is the conclusion "so men must be projecting" ?

let your partner tell you that they value you for the things you do over who you are and anecdotally that hasn't worked too well for any man saying that so this feels either failing to describe that nuance or false.

something about being wanted for functionality over desire that I'm sure wouldn't sit well with you either tho

not going to lie, it seems like you are one who has at least a neutral opinion on the article. I read it and possibly my hesitance to speak on things as a man given that the group isnt a monolith. personally within the realm of romantic companionship, i have little to no qualms about an individual deciding that the pursuit of romance is not worth it for their sake, i did however find some issue with the way things are phrased essentially that men are like training a dog in the way the author fel…

it's hard to convince someone of something when they themselves have evidence of the contrary. for example you being told that you need xyz to be more attractive to women would result in you questioning it because you already are attractive to them whereas someone struggling with it will see the RP person surrounded by women so the idea that they are repulsive to women as you say won't hold any weight to them. a lot of retort towards men wondering where they've gone wrong is either you aren't X …
