Oh yes, I'm sure some of them are genuine. r/tinder is a cesspool though, I'm reasonably active over there and all the most intense harassment I've gotten on Reddit has been based on comments I've made there.

I think some of them get off on the "EW WTF" kind of response. Kinda like how some guys send dick pics for the express purpose of being told their dick is gross. They're also filtering for low self-esteem.

I'm pretty sure that half of those are faked for karma and the other half are reposts that have been circulating for years. In reality these guys aren't getting positive responses nearly as frequently as r/tinder would have you believe. It just gets 10k upvotes because 10k guys want to believe that the same thing could happen to them.

I think those ads are just people trying to get around Craigslist filtering out ads for porn? Like, no one is going to reply to that thinking it's NOT porn.

Men who say single women have large dogs in order to have sex with those dogs are just trying to shame single women out of having large dogs...so there are no large dogs between them and those women.

Again, not speaking about this person in particular, just responding to the point about sex workers as a whole, suffering under capitalism with the rest of us. In a world with guaranteed basic income, where childcare doesn't eat all the profits you could make at a full time job, I think there would be a lot fewer sex workers. I'm also kinda surprised by how sex workers are supposed to use their attractiveness to get them non-sex industry jobs, rather than education, skills, experience, etc? But …

Some women really don't have that much of an option, though :/ I can't speak for this person in particular but in a world where Jeff Bezos is raking in billions while his workers run 14-hour shifts in godawful conditions, etc etc etc...the existence of sex workers doesn't cause men to act worse than they already wanted to act, in fact it reveals them for what they already are.

Makes sense to me. Women are going to do most of the childcare anyway--I think there's much more peace of mind in doing everything yourself, than doing most of it yourself and nagging your partner into doing the rest of it.

Everyone else has done a pretty good job of calling this dude gross, so can I just be like...does anything else think the whole "favorite sex position" question is just really stupid on top of being gross? I've had people ask me before/during/after sex what my favorite position is and it's like...IDK it's different with different people because people have different bodies? Like, what do they hope to achieve with that question? Is it dirty talk? If so it's really lame.

I got into an argument in some Reddit comments once where men were discussing how society conditions them to not talk about their feelings, but when they open up about their feelings, women don't like it. (I pointed out that feelings are not-value neutral which they didn't like). One comment in particular, the guy said, "I opened up about my feelings, my ex called me a baby, and then she broke up with me." A gay guy commented to say, "Uh, gonna need some more details on that one to tell you whet…

These posts are often one-sided and omit any infidelity on his behalf to make it seem like the wife/GF cheated on her own accord, randomly because she was evil This reminds me of the "Somebody that you used to know" song where the dude paints the girlfriend as being this ice queen who can't even be bothered to pick up her things from his place, and then she comes around like, "You were super passive aggressive and gaslighted me and I was walking on eggshells all the time."

"Family emergency" is what you say to your boss so you don't have to provide personal details to your workplace. Saying it on a date is just lacking the creativity to even lie properly. Yes! Maybe restrict it to people with "apprentice" or higher level flair? People who have already been semi-vetted. I would be really interested to see a breakdown of the individual parts of the handbook and see what percentage of users agree with what rules--we're not a hive mind who all think the same way. For example, how many people think living together before marriage is a good move, how many don't? Official FDS policy is to not do it, but in the post about it there is some pretty lively d…

MEN: Only men can be incels! Women's hypergamous nature means that they will always be able to find someone willing to have sex with them--even relatively unattractive women can still have sex with very attractive men without much effort, since attractive men will bang anything that moves. ALSO MEN: FEMCELS FEMCELS FEMCELS! Honestly, though, I think the disconnect happens because for toxic men, the worst thing you can call someone, the worst thing you can be, is a virgin, a woman, or gay. You ca…

When you have to put in a lot of work from a young age to support others, it does make you grow up quickly. I'm not surprised that he wouldn't feel like he had a lot in common with most people his age who hadn't had that experience.

Same. I'm fortunate that I've always been attracted to people my own age (the one person I dated who was 5 years older actually looked pretty young). I'm also not sure if it's an age thing...younger men still have their metabolism and spiking hormones working for them, hair, etc. Ageing weeds out the ones who don't work to maintain their physique or curate an attractive style.

Don't feel like an idiot. Re-calibrating is hard work and you're putting that work in. You didn't slide on seeing him in person and you didn't let this go on longer than a few weeks. That seems to be an improvement from your past, and you should be proud that you're taking these steps.

Yeah, copying body language is a pretty common thing that people do subconsciously, and sometimes people do it consciously to put people at ease...but the mocking angle is a whole new thing to me. Like, "I COULD be making you feel comfortable, but instead I'm co-opting the language of comfort and attraction and trust to undermine you."

They're trying to filter for women with low self-esteem so they don't end up with someone who will ask more of them. If you had gone on the second date, that would have been indicative of you having low-self esteem.

Well, you are the only person who knows for sure what is and isn't worth it, and you're the person taking that risk, and you've spent a lot more time weighing the risks than I have--I don't know much about HPV or its transmission, so I can't give you the exact likelihood of how likely you are to catch it from him if he's telling the truth, and I'm not going to pretend I do based on a few minutes of Google research. I really dislike seeing BLM/ACAB because these movements + phrases are about protesting black people getting killed by police...and these guys are using it to try and hook up? There are other "woke" phrases that make me have your same response that it's just a ploy, but seeing BLM/ACAB genuinely repulses me. George Floyd would be pumped, I'm sure, that these guys are co-opting the movement this way.

Insert buzzword label from the pseudo woke bandwagon. And from recent social movements too. There's a lot of people saying "BLM" now, which, sure, I support BLM too, but it's gross to co-opt a political movement which is about seeking justice for oppressed minorities for the purpose of attracting a partner.

He is already being rude. He ALREADY has you worried about his reactions and being tip-toe-y and you haven't even seen him yet. If you are concerned about getting an inappropriate response when you try and cut it off--if he has presented himself as the kind of person who would guilt trip and browbeat you--just block him straight up.

My concern would be that even if she does move in, she might go back really quickly, and then you'll be in the same situation again. Or she'll start having him over/try to move him in too, because "things are going better". Sorry for the cynicism...I do hope she gets out too, but that is the other side of the coin with people caught in toxic cycles: maybe they will break it, but most likely they won't. Every other time they've had a chance to break it, they haven't. Statistics aren't on your sid…

Empathetic and empathy are baselines for anyone! But seeing them in profiles still raises a red flag for me, because if someone describes themselves as "an empath", then they're probably a manipulative psycho, but if they describe themselves as "very empathetic" or "high in empathy", then it's like...what do you want, a cookie? Congratulations, you're a person (and also you're probably manipulative too).

I think a dog might be a good choice if you are in a good place to take care of one! If you are used to running as part of your fitness routine, maybe get a high-energy breed that you can take on runs with you. That would help you mentally re-frame your fitness motivation from "I work out to be hot for guys" to "I work out to have fun with my dog".

She suggests rubbing a lollipop or pineapple over your cooch before sex to make it taste better. I'm torn between commenting, "Do you want yeast infections? Because THAT'S HOW YOU GET YEAST INFECTIONS" and saying that if someone doesn't think your vagina tastes amazing all on its own, that isn't someone who has any business having any kind of sexual contact with you.

I don't think it's possible for someone to feel the exact physical pain you have felt, simply because pain doesn't translate perfectly through language. When I think of the worst pain I've felt it isn't something that words can fully capture. Plus the sheer act of linguistic description being necessary in the first place means it isn't an actual "empath" thing because science fiction/fantasy/supernatural clairvoyants don't need language, they just literally sense what's happening in real time to…

This this this. If someone lacks empathy, then all counseling will help them with is their ability to be even MORE manipulative. It's the psychopath dilemma. If someone believes other people are beneath them, if they enjoy the suffering of others...do you WANT that person to learn how to appear normal?

Also I always think "Clairvoyant" when I see the word "Empath". It's like, dude, are you trying to convince me you're Counselor Troi from Star Trek or something? During the whole Shane Dawson drama, when Tati Westbrook was talking about how she got manipulated by him, she said something like, "He said he was an empath so I shared a lot of very personal things with him." And to me that sounds just as silly as if she said, "He said he was a medium so I asked him to contact my dead great-grandmothe…

I hate it when people are passive-aggressive about the height thing. "6'2" cause apparently it matters" "6'1" if you happen to care about that." Like dude, either put your height or don't put your height. There's no need to be a pissbaby about it. If you're going to share a physical characteristic about yourself, why the hell would you express contempt for people who would be attracted to that physical characteristic?

I agree with this take on it. Skin care, healthy eating, and fitness are all habits that will pay off in the long-term for anyone. Doing these things NOW will help you have a much higher quality of life when you're older, and I don't think dropping them is the solution.

I like cooking for my friends--it's one of my principle methods of showing affection. But I had experience last year with someone staying home to get stoned rather than coming over to eat my meticulously planned home-cooked dinner...suffice to say, ouch. Not cooking for someone again unless he makes a comparable romantic gesture first.

There's a stereotype in academia that long-term tenured male professors have 3 marriages: The first wife: the one he marries in his 20s, who puts him through school, the mother of his children. The second wife: the much younger one he marries after first getting tenure. The third wife: the other academic who's actually his age.

Mental illness isn't your fault but it is your responsibility. I think a lot of people struggle with this concept. Like, just because I pointed out there is something in your life that needs some work doesn't mean that you're morally reprehensible for having that problem in the first place. It's odd to me how many people feel like not being bad people is the pinnacle of human accomplishment and aren't interested in being the best (or even happiest) they can be.
