I never said parents are supposed to exclude other people from a child's life. There's just usually not enough involvement from family to be a multi-generational household. That's just the way it works out in North America most of the time. Might be an unpopular opinion on this subreddit but the nuclear family is a synthetic invention. We're meant to live in communities and multi-generational households like we have for all human history. Having 2 parents primarily responsible for raising children is a very recent invention. The "traditional" nuclear family is an american invention. You're meant to be rasied by a community with your extended family. Thats the way humans were raised for all of history and pre history. You're meant to have more than just a duo-dictator pair raising you. The nuclear family conservatives want is artificial and only commonly existed for a short time. Multigenerational households are healthier. We're not getting back to that without a huge cataclysmic shift though.
