In fact, I rarely wear skirts or dresses to work and only wear mascara for makeup. The anger over women wearing female typical clothing is next level. I assume that once women wear only pants and shirts you’ll soon take issue with the fit or cut- because, gasp, it might clue you in that there is a female underneath. Women who show cleavage are not the norm and it is usually spelled out in company policy that overtly sexual clothing is not acceptable. Basic makeup is not “sexy.” It’s a general part of some women’s grooming routine to look polished, professional, and clean. I say/ stop letting men come in with jazzy patterned ties, or aftershave, or fitted button downs, or expensive tailored suits that look great, if that’s the premise of your argument. You don’t need a fitted suit to crunch #s or lead meetings- it’s to look professional. The only thing beneficial to any company is productivity. You are there to work, and make the company money. That is benefit- productivity, and it is the scale you are setting by saying things about grooming and attire choices should be based on their benefit/ no benefit to the company. This discussion has gone as far as to suggest women shouldn’t be allowed to wear basic makeup. Well, clearly from all the comments collected one could surmise that standards of professional attire and grooming are subjective to the individual. All your arguments thus far point to 1) A desire to make everyone comply to your personal standards, and 2) an unverifiable assumption that makeup and feminine attire makes an entire workplace unproductive. Work in a kitchen, wear non-skid shoes. Work as a nurse, prohibit acrylic nails, work in a professional office , determine what level of professional attire is appropriate in the specific setting (business, business casual, etc.) I’m honestly not sure what OP is imagining in the workplace guidelines he’s proposing.
