When you date, people take it seriously. Maybe not in college. But the idea is that each date you take should potentially end in marriage. Casual dating wasn’t something I saw outside of college. Friends would terminate dates because they just don’t see marriage in the future. Being in a relationship is just a step to being married. So a lot of adult men and women just don’t date because they don’t want to get married anyway. Being in a relationship is just a transitionary period to that.

Dating leads to marriage and marriage leads to kids. The cultural expectations are intense af in Japan. People who are together and not have children are considered failures no matter the success in employment or finances.

Weird, got recommended this post after commenting on a similar thread on another subreddit. The low birth rate back home is because it fucking sucks to have kids in Japan. Women are expected to stay at home and men are expected to never be at home because work culture. You are also pressured to have kids after marriage. People will think you failed as a man if you don’t have kids or your wife must be barren. You can be a high power couple and people will give you a pass. The original news articl…
