I’d say it is at least as damaging psychologically (and often physically). I’ve never had either happen to me, but I’d imagine rape may be more psychologically damaging. Edit: also, thought I’d add that I think comparing the two is incredibly stupid. They are both terrible things. The fact that one of them is harmful doesn’t mean that the other isn’t. That’s just dumb.

They wouldn’t be making the first move because I was the one that gave them my number. If I made an impression and they want to contact me, then they will and if not, no harm done. I’ve made the first move, balls in their court.

When I was still looking, I decided to give the girl my number. I’d wrap up the conversation, “I gotta get back to my friends, let me give you my number and you can text me later.” Then if she offered me her phone, just type it in, if not just scrawl it on a napkin. Girl doesn’t feel on the spot to make a decision of do I like this guy enough to go ahead and give him my number. Then it’s in her court, she can text or not, but I’m not thinking about it anymore, I’m doing something else.

Honestly. It sounds like you were too busy thinking about how to/weather you should kiss her and not enough about engaging in meaningful conversation with her. Of course she is going to seem boring if all you did on the date was think about kissing her and weren't in the moment engaging her in the conversation.

This is perfect! I don't know why I've never thought of being that straightforward when exiting a conversation, but I hadn't. I have been trying to figure that part out because it is one of the biggest things that continues to hold me back on approaches. I hate being in that awkward place where you have to make up some reason to leave. Just saying, hey it doesn't seem like you are digging this, I'm going to go is great. No more super uncomfortable forced exits (obviously it is uncomfortable) and…

Thanks for the advice. I think I get what you are saying. I have to be more emotionally engaging while speaking. I guess I will just have to keep practicing.

That seems like a good idea. What I've felt most comfortable with is the whole interview style if conversation. I know it is boring to have someone ask what you do, but I am usually able to build conversation out of it if she is even remotely receptive to talking. Is it bad to go the boring route that may drove some women away if I can make it work some of the time? I want to try other things, but I end up over thinking.

I am recently divorced as well (although my situation is much less complicated), I slept with this girl I met at a bar about a month after the divorce. I don't know why, but I felt I had to be honest about my situation before escalating to sex, so we were at her place making out and talking about all sorts of stuff. I just turned to her and said, "I think you are super attractive, obviously, but I just need to make sure we are on the same page here. I just need you to know that I just got divorc…

Happened for me earlier this week. I got over my fear of rejection and asked the girl to go grab coffee or food sometime. She had a boyfriend, but I was so much happier after doing it than if I hadn't. Rejection is less fun than getting the girl, but it is a lot more fun than not having the nuts to do it. Now that I know that getting rejected can actually be somewhat fun (just in the enjoyment I get in being the person I want to be), I can now talk to women without that fear. The worst that happ…

That was my problem and why I said it was the only thing I could think of. I would use it in a situation where I had been flirting with the girl and she was obviously into me (we had been touching and making a good connection). I wouldn't use it if it was unclear how she felt about me. If she was into me, then it is a funny flirtatious line. If she isn't/ hadn't thought of me that way, then it is cocky and overbearing. Also, it's clearly in the way you say it. I wouldn't say it like a question, …

Yeah. I live near a small (20k people) college town and see the exact same people every week. It's nice once you get to know people because it becomes easier to be the guy everyone knows and wants to hang with which increases your value, but initial impressions are definitely important of you'll have an uphill battle.

They could also be doing this because you have framed the relationship as a friendship, so since she feels little or no sexual tension, she feels comfortable talking about whatever. Determining which it is is a little difficult, but I would say your best move is some sort of playful banter. I can't think of any good responses right now, but maybe others will. The only thing I think might potentially work is a jokingly intoned "yeah, but not as attractive as me." Problem is that depending on the …

I am in the exact same situation. I've been in this new city for 6 months, and only recently started having any social success by going out. My problem earlier was caring too much. I was afraid of talking to people, so I didn't fit the most part. Over the last 3-4 weeks though, I decided to just stop caring. Instead of scoping out a group I thought might be receptive, I started to introduce myself to the first person/group I saw at the bar. I also realized that conversational pleasantries normal…
