Aren't you also controlled by your friends, considering you value their opinions on how you should act? Have you heard of the lobster syndrome? When a lobster tries to escape its bucket, the others drag it back down. The girl that got a boyfriend, was the one that successfully escaped, whereas you're still being dragged down. What do you want? If you truly want to keep your boyfriend, then the friends' nagging is a small price to pay. Or better yet, choose better friends.

I know that what I did was wrong, just realised it too late. Like you said being self-aware requires hard work, and sometimes I slip. I can't fix her feelings, but if I'm in the wrong, I believe I should offer compassion instead of maintaining a cold rational frame, that I can't fix this anymore. The beauty of the oak is that it lets you stand against the person beating against you, but then also lets you envelope them in your branches in a calming and comforting cocoon. Not only do they stop beating on you, but they realize the futility of doing so. I have had two simil…

The rational mind says no, but the voice at the back of head says that it's content and comfortable. I believe this is something many people encounter, and everyone find a different way to defeat it.

That particular piece was mostly an angry response to people that say something along the lines of "you're a beta, you don't want to change, all the better for the rest of us, who will get the rewards that you didn't want / strive to". So it wasn't anything like I'm doing it because others said so.
