For all the talk of "fake news", this sort of reporting is what really troubles me. The media has not lied, but by manipulating what they do and do not report, a reasonable viewer without other information would be lead to believe something that is not true, just as if they had been lied to. And the pattern shows that to be exactly the intent of the media.

It's a rhetorical device. It's not in support of those. By making the reader recognize those cherished rights they have above men, it makes arguing in favor of men being brought up to that level easier. A form of reverse psychology.

DMHS: is one of the most egregious forms of gender policing, and to put it in perspective, imagine if it was used for women and not men. It strips agency, choice and standards.

Sure it's possible. But we're all tired of hearing everyone make the presumption of innocence for a person if they don't have a penis and presume villainy if they do. Jumping to the conclusion that always involves shifting responsibility away from women, aside from being sexist against men, is insulting to the notion that women are equally capable creatures as men.

It would be great if you could switch up the order of male / female text. Currently male text is on top, while the female graphic portion of the circle is on top. That juxtaposition makes assessing thing difficult at a glance. Also, would be nice if you had the good things (like child custody and graduation) on one side, and bad things (like deaths) on the other. That way at a quick glance you can note the advantage one gender has, and the burden the other has.

The thing I don't get is that if what she says is true, and that she really is on the side of many men's right's issues, then what the hell is she doing trying to stop a mr event? Why do these issues only have to be discussed and moderated through a feminist organization? "We're working on it" Great, so are MRAs, so why are you trying to stop them then??

Feminists and mras are constantly fighting against the end of the bell curve examples that hide under the umbrella label that they adopt to make their shit opinions seem to carry greater value. The majority of feminists would never defend that woman, however, an mr movement is necessary to shine light on examples of institutional patriarchy working against them such as in this example.

Men talk more about their feelings now than they did in the 50s, but since then the gender-suicide-gap has trebled in size. People seem to think 'Men kill themselves because they can't open up' Hard truths now. Men kill themselves at three times the rate than in the 50's because men buy into the idea of opening up, and discover that no one listens. It's the cruelest bait and switch. "We won't think less of you for opening up" and then they do.

31 years of life have taught me that no one wants to help me. They want me to get better. They want someone else to help and fix me. They want it all to be over, because I do matter to them, but no one actually wants to help me. Not the way I need to be helped. Because acknowledging a guy who is broken is ... icky. Men can't be broken. The very idea of it is repulsive and no one can stand it and they desperately want it to go away. And when everyone thinks that the magical "someone else" is the …

Maybe she only means that 99% of people who have their drinks drugged in bars are women... ...But sharing private photos and getting touchy in a professional setting? Women are 99% the victim in those cases? No way.

In that context, you could more accurate say that men's rights is advocating for gaps in equality that effect men. I wouldn't say it isn't about equality simply because it's specific focus is not wholly inclusive.

"I don't kiss on a first date. I'm not that kind of girl." People like to set arbitrary rules as protection and as easy outs, so long as they are free to break them themselves at any moment. If you have trouble articulating your thoughts and feelings, experience has taught you that ending a bad date by "I told you I don't kiss on the first date" is easier than trying to end it by formulating your various desires in a coherent fashion. It's one of those white lies people assume is fine because it…

Anyone can check and see I actually had a +35 positive comment score in /r/feminism before I was banned, presumably because of my posting histories. That's extremist hyperbole. "Feelings" aren't going to make a woman believe she's a virgin after six different dicks. And no, this is not a case of awalt. All women are beholden to feelings and it makes them act outside the bound of a rationality even they have demonstrated previous, but it doesn't follow that all women lie about being virgins. Moreover, not all women who have had sex with three guys are the same. 60% aren't going to divorce by your figures. TRP isn't about despair at those numb…

This has not be my experience, and I take exception to the voting behaviors of those who have backed the anecdote they prefer. Moreover, I take exception to you framing your experience as being universal rather than an n of one and I find nothing you've written to be supported by anything but your own perceptions, experienced or imagined. It's how everything should be focused. Don't have affirmative action for black people for example. Have affirmative action for the economically disadvantaged instead. Do you know who that will primarily service? Minorities. And thankfully so. But the poor white kid growing up in the ghetto won't be left behind either. It's economics that keep people down, not the color of their skin. It just so happens that for very real reasons (ie history) a disproportionate number of people with a certain col…

Are you being a pessimistic skeptic for its own sake? Listen, women aren't lying 24/7 about everything always. They are human beings. They just have slightly different biochemical directives than you. It is important that you're on the lookout for those moments of deception, in women as well as in men, but don't follow it down a road of inherent suspicion; you'll be wrong more often than right. And the point of TRP is to cast off comfortable delusions to find what's right more often than not. Wo…

Play the game based on the rules that are, rather than the rules that ought to be and get mad and sad when things don't turn out as they "should". Women are great! People are great! You just have to be careful not to act as if the rest of the world operates under the same delusions you've chosen to operate under.

Hard not to become Scott. Hard not to cry yourself to sleep. Men have feelings too. And we don't control women. If your lady is going to do this, she's going to do this, and it will kill you, and there's no shame in breaking down over it. But knowing the rules to the game at they are, what drives stir inside women, the unique biochemistry that sets forth their priorities, you can make decisions to avoid this outcome.

I've dated two women who were virgins older than 26. Both absolutely beautiful and both would eventually decided to add sex to the table in our relationship. But both had no experience in relationships, which was a major problem. One of them was a fantastic human being so it didn't matter... ... but my point is that neither extreme of sexusl activity is particularly ideal. Look for some sort of balance that works for you in between.

Captain and first mate. Not captain and passenger on a jamaican cruise. If you don't like the view and are arguing for a new course, you might be passenger. If you're looking to see what you can do to make sure the plotted course brings your cargo to port, you're probably a first mate.

Women are told they can be victims, so they are aware and ready to confront those situations. Men aren't told we can be victims, we're only ever told we are the aggressors. We aren't prepared for the reverse. Those guys saw it and couldn't process the situation. No. I'm taking issue with the absolutivity of the statement. That in order to be x, you must adhere to y. It's a shaming tactic to make people conform to a particular perspective and eliminate dissenting perspectives by removing room for discourse.

Do you seriously feel that what you wrote suddenly isn't shaming if it is altered to apply to more people?
/r/MensRights06/03/15 06:01 PM

The gender is irrelevant. You're still suggesting that a person cannot simultaneously be confident while holding that position. You need to substantiate and remove the absolutivity in your language.
/r/MensRights06/03/15 05:28 PM
23

Please don't derail this into semantics. You're implying that a position someone might hold is inconsistent with being a 'truly confident man' which I hope you can look back at retrospectively and recognize as flagrant shaming language.
/r/MensRights06/03/15 05:20 PM

A truly confident man can accept that a person's past may not define them And now you're shaming. A 'truly confident man' can absolutely be of the opinion that a person's history does shape who they are today.

And it seems from accounts like they both did. But there's a lot if unnecessary shame associated with sex. If after the fact people around you convince you it's a bad thing people tend to internalize narratives that magically absolve them of responsibility for their "negative" experience. I have to go to work, so I'll be brief. Like you, I bought the narrative I was sold. One side said A, the other said B, and I figured A was probably right because why wouldn't it? and unable to consent is the critical part you're not appreciating in the first example. Kissed when you didn't want to and pressuring for sex don't contribute to the rape numbers but the "other sexual violence" category. And rightfully so! Those aren't rape, but neither are they good things and it deserves to be investigated. Which they did. This study is fine and doesn't deserve the hate casual observation with defined predispositions elect to find.

A valid premise with a flawed conclusion. That we are different does not mean that we should shoe horn into roles or deny access to others. Equality in opportunity sorts out any inherent inequalities. Let people become what they will.

I can't get passed the unapologetic generalizatons that cascade one after another in that first paragraph There are lots of things that men do that are crazy, like insist on trying to impress people by regurgitating lines from Adam Sandler movies and investing scores of time in that imaginary monstrosity that is fantasy football. You're walking, staring straight ahead, deliberately neutral expression, not looking at anyone and you pass a group of people staring at you. And not simply because people are not mind readers.

Whether I'm comfortable with it or not is irrelevant. The question is whether a single compliment, acknowledgement of your existence, or even someone approaching you and asking you out, is harassment. And no it is not. I find it obnoxious when people smoke in public. That doesn't make it harassment. It's slippery because for some women this can be a thing and for another's not so much. You have to be really careful about when a boundary is real, and not quite. Even for women who do have some soft boundaries and -do- want you to be assertive, that won't be true for -all- their boundaries. Best rule of thumb is not to push a boundary you suspect is soft until you're close enough to be forgiven for misinterpreting.

I'm subbed to every place that discusses gender and equality, and I call out BS on all sides when I see it. I don't pull my punches on MR on TRP when someone says something absurd, but I'm always waking on eggshells when I do so in a feminist leaning sub. Men's Right's is wrong. This is a truth so obvious that when discussing it, it's often expressed as a given. No evidence is provided because it's self evident. It's a hatred filled movement, with no point in existing, and it therefore follows unsurprisingly that every follower is some woman hater afraid of real equality. At least, that's the general thought process of someone who approaches the world through a confirmation bias. When the conclusion is a fixed point, the evidence becomes the vari…

You do realize that that is exactly the stance I'm standing behind right? That no action prior to the withdrawal of consent counts as rape, but that anything thereafter does. If they withdraw consent after the fact, too bad. If they withdraw consent in the middle of the act and you stop, too bad. But if consent is withdrawn in the middle and you elect to continue, then yes that thereafter becomes rape.

Men are actors, women acted upon. Women need protecting, men need to be leashed. I wonder how much of this is historical gender bias that just needs to hurry up and die off, and how much is still subtlety reinforced and passed along. Certainly illustrates why there is such a disparity in the recognition of and allocation of resources for broader men's mental health issues, dv included.

The same was true in the us prior to 2012 when the FBI modified it's definition half way. Now men can be raped by women, but rape is still defined as being penetrated which is why statistically so few men are 'raped' by women. In the CDC's 2010 report that the 1in5 figure comes from, that definition is used and to find the numbers for men who were forced to penetrate you have to look under 'other sexual violence'. It's a tactic. The thing is, there's a line. We're all very good at seeing that line with race. We're hyper aware and know immediately when it's crossed. With gender it's still fuzzy. We want too do what's right, but the balance between outcome and justice isn't as well defined in our minds. By juxtaposing gender with race, we can employ the clarity from one, and see how appropriate a course of action really is with the other.

This doesn't need to be a us vs them argument guys. Feminists by and large are fine on this issue. But it is an issue. Most people, when given the option, would choose rape over death. Moreover, for every one woman raped in war, how many men have died? When you are expected to act upon, whenever the green light is provided by a woman, where is the agency? ...so, Alpha men by comparison know they fall in love faster than women? I'm not sure what point you're making other than to pass anything negative on a nebulous "other". Alpha/Beta used to be a very limited but very concrete thing.

It's simply a result of what matters to a person. Whatever is less important, is malleable in the name of the more important ... be that a principle, a lifestyle, a family or relationship. Everyone is guilty of it, and each person is going to have unique priorities. She clearly valued the relationship high, and lifestyle low. He valued lifestyle high and their relationship low. But once married to a wonderful woman and with kids, I bet you he'd move heaven and earth for that family, even if it m…

You're miffed that women, today, don't want to be conscripted. And you cite hypocrisy because despite the fact that men, today, do not want to be conscripted ... what men were happy to be conscripted? Bullshit. They either volunteered because of a personal sense of responsibility/nationalism or were reluctantly pressed into service and accepted it only because of negative repercussions from refusal. Vietnam be damned, that's too recent for you? You want to cite something pre-1920s you go for it.…

Show me the movement demanding conscription of women. Show me the movement of men who are happy with conscription at all. Most men don't want to be conscripted, so too with women, big surprise. Among volunteer service, there absolutely has been a movement to push for permitting women the opportunity to compete for combat roles.

You just parroted what I said and downvoted me for it. Did you miss the part where I talk about equal responsibility? I don't disagree with the necessity of a level recruiting field. That's the whole point.

Do you have a stable career and an enticing future? Have you matured, become wiser and have interesting perspective to offer? That's what you have over a 20 something guy. But the other end of the table turning is women losing their allure and having a increasingly large window of competition and diminished window of men to date from. It's real, your mileage may vary.

Friend, relationships can end for reasons other than the guys being a douchebag. A guy can be great and normal, but not someone you want to walk through life with. And that's a potential that might not become clear until a few months in. You go onto some inequity tangents, with which I agree. But the playing field will level a lot faster if you keep an open mind and don't shame women on a number alone, with no context, as you initially did. The 20 something inequity is real. The tables turn. For…

It's one of many aspects to a person's life. She can be otherwise fantastic. You can choose not to save her, and her boyfriend can. Both are based on what you know of the person. Neither is invalid.

Remember, it isn't the number of people that makes you bad at marriage, it's just that people unfit for marriage often sleep with a lot of people. The number isn't the meaningful metric in my experience. Plenty of relationships have potential but don't last more than 6 months, and plenty of those relationships will have naturally included a sexual component. People who get into and out of relationships for the right reasons make wonderful partners once they find the right person, in spite of the…

It is, if you believe it is. You don't get to decide that. That person gets to decide that. The real problem is not that some men value their gf's lives more than their own ... it's that women don't reciprocate. They don't take up the same mantle of responsibility.

I do disagree with your assertion that feminism as whole is bad because it seeks to deny instincts however. That is bad, indeed. But good feminism, long since gone and long since successful was about giving women equal opportunity to do and be what they want with out regard for instinct. If their ability was great enough to overcome a particular instinct and they were better than the man next to them, then great. It was about judging them as individuals on merit and not prejudging them based on …

That's fine. But there's a difference between saying that someone isn't your cup of tea and declaring them to not be marriage material at all. Someone who has slept with 9 people can still be marriage material, who had been judicious and have approached their relationships with the same care as you and others. 9 isn't so high that it necessitates the conclusion of being nothing but casual sex having fuck-toy who will never ever be marriage material. It's just not someone who aligns with you.

Women have no trouble finding time for children, even with work. Ours nor world population is in any danger. And while you may consider it a more important responsibility, it's not for you to decide how another person chooses to live their lives. Being pregnant and raising a child are different things, and neither is incompatible with work should a woman so choose.

Yes, and that's one of the issues I push back on. That and child custody laws, rape prosecution procedure, dating culture and so on... ...but they aren't required for women to compete and they aren't being told that they have to go to college any more than men are. Let that last part sink in. Lack of wage increase has zero to do with immigration or the masses of women working. I really would like to see women compete on a level playing field with men, in anything. They will be fucking destroyed. Men are superior to women in sports, academia, work, politics, warfare, and anything that doesn't solely involve socializing on a local level. Look I'm going to bed. You're very wrong about everything you writ in pretty much every nuanced detail. But that right there has to be the most absurd claim. No one is forcing their inclusion, and the only thing pushed is that it's as valid an option as anything else. Women who want families make time for it just like men who want families make time for it and the most successful families are those that cooperate to pol the greatest amount of time for their families. Women in the workplace does not impact the capacity to achieve the same result as with a traditional gender role family.

The "consequences" don't manifest just because you say they will or believe they will. You're advocating a social policy that strips rights from other human beings based on nothing but your own personal preference and that is reprehensible morality and irresponsible public policy. Child raising can be accomplished as a pair or with a man as a primary caregiver just as effectively as with the mother as the home body. Gender is not irrelevant, time spent is. Men can be just as good at cooking, cleaning, taking care of the home and managing children as women after all. And I'm sorry. Most women do not. Most men do. Hence, barring women from voting is a net positive. That is utterly absurd. Do you have anything backing that claim at all? When the best and brightest women slave away pushing paper instead of bearing children, civilization declines. No, it hasn't. Despite this being the case. I'm going to preempt you by reminding you that men can raise children too. For some men, they're better at it than women. Do you seriously want the genius woman scientist who doesn't get ch…

Women, being emotional, fear-based creatures will never vote in a rational manner. Plenty of women vote rationally all the time. Plenty of men vote irrationally. Whenever women are allowed to vote, freedom and individualism is replaced by socialism and collectivism. Even if this is true, which it is not, many would argue those are neither mutually exclusive nor is one necessarily better than the other in all cases. As for women not being a benefit, I entirely disagree. There are certain spots th…

20 something I can understand /u/HungerGuy's frustration; the inherent value in a woman is higher than that of equivalent aged men. They are in the prime of their beauty and still at an age where family is the future and responsibility is low so they are afforded great freedom to explore. Men are still largely judged in unequal measure on their successes, particular career, though hobbies and accomplishment count as well. These are things that men have in short supply in their early 20's and the…

Not as freely or as easily. A woman blessed with a scientifically gifted intellect had a really hard time convincing society to let her contribute before feminism. And a harder time still participating in the schooling that would even allow one to realize that potential existed in the first place. Equality is a wonderful thing, and it took feminism to get it. It's just that some who would rather believe that their gender and not their ability is what holds them back from where they want to be ha…

It doesn't take a controlling gf to keep you from cheating, and it shouldn't take the same to keep her loyal either. If she does, then she does. Those are her failings however, not yours. It existed, but did so in isolation and in the subconscious. Plenty enough for anecdotes. It was real, but never so egregious as some preached, not for a very very long time anyways. Only if they invent and exaggerate non issues to fuel personal persecution complexes. Which unfortunately seems to be the case. Legitimate grievances still do pop up time to time, but I think society is now largely self correcting in these regards, and the need for a movement has passed. The women I know most passionately interested in equality are largely inactive because there really isn't much that needs righting.

I can count the number of self proclaimed feminists that were genuinely interested in equality on one hand. They were beautiful human beings. Feminism is a relic because it's no longer about being a watchguard for equality, but has been largely co opted as a legitimate voice to project unpopular and radical misandry. Equality and fairness is wonderful and I support those of either gender in pursuit of it where things are grossly lopsided, but the feminism as a term has become an umbrella for vie…

I think it's fine and great that she appreciates what "nice guys" have to offer; different people are going to realize that at different times. Really? 9 isn't a lot. I'm more concerned with the objectification and the taste. I wouldn't sleep with a hot chick I didn't click magically with just to check it off the list, and that's a standard I hold potential partners to as well. Why did people down vote this? Remove gender for a second and realize that both parents don't have an equivalently demanding career in order to have an equally supportive relationship. More goes into a relationship than how much time you spend at work and how much money you bring home. There's nothing wrong with feeling your strengths lie inside the home any more than there is fault in your flaws falling on the domestic side.
