I love that you mentioned Once Upon a Time! I stopped watching after season 4 or 5 (can’t recall) but I loved the first few seasons for all the reasons you mentioned. Just a romantic look, gesture or kiss conveyed more emotion than any sex scene I’ve seen on these other shows (looking at you, Outlander). I miss these types of shows. The emotional story is at the forefront, not fake humping which is always so uncomfortable to watch! Just cringe. Let the girl just slyly walk into the guys room the…

Nail on the head! A sweet but lukewarm guy totally broke my heart and it was honestly much harder to get over then the outright abusive relationships. I was in a constant anxious state and felt like I was apologizing daily for being insecure because he was just so good at pretending to be HV. The day the light came on was when he asked me, “why do you always drink so much when I’m around?” I’m not a big drinker so hearing that was the game changer. I drank to excess ONLY when I saw him. I can’t …

Also, in the real world we don’t actively hate on and have such open vitriol for short men or any man that don’t meet our preferences. But let Becky gain some weight and it’s open season on her.

I was just hate lurking in a men’s issues sub (with my different username of course) and the number of posts that started with, “I’m a woman and I agree with you” then continued to sound like absolutely nothing a woman would ever say was mind blowing. I didn’t know whether to be upset or start laughing because those clowns are fooling no one with that! I take that back: they are fooling no women. 100% the men thought it was really a woman. Let them all scam each other off a cliff fr.

I never liked this show because the dialogue is so so bad. Rapid-fire, sanctimonious bull in a lazy attempt to make the characters seem interesting. Dawson’s Creek did the same thing. Who the F* talks like that? So irritating.

Your comment about your eye color stuck out to me. Are yours green by chance? This happened to me when I was dating outside my race. Mine are green and they fixated waaaay too much on this. Like I was a walking eye color (I’m white as well for context). Apparently this was a status eye color in their culture which I found very odd. Found that out later and then felt dirty for some reason. Like I was used for some random genetic reason.

It’s been a difficult journey learning to tune them out. My mom always keeps up text relationships with any of mine and my sibling’s exes after we’ve broken up with them. I’ve tried to tell her it’s not her “awesomeness” or their “good nature” that causes them to text her after we’ve broken up but she just thinks I’m bitter and should rise above block and delete. Meanwhile she’s kept a “friendship” with a married man since the 1980s. My dad isn’t much better with his many relationships but at le…

You know what I just realized? I have the exact opposite problem in my family. By brothers and dad are the first ones to say a man is shit and I deserve better and it’s my sister and mom that are always crying, “well you don’t know what he’s potentially going through, blah blah blah”. I can’t honestly say which one is worse.

I love this answer—if the man isn’t a hell yes then he’s a no—and wholeheartedly agree. I’m a good decade older than you and have had my share of long term relationships that were crap but every single one of these men dropped the L bomb first and in a timely fashion (meaning, I never had to question their feelings or intentions). It sounds very much to me like you’re a placeholder. If you have to ask the question, the answer is no.

As a single mom I 100% agree with this. My ex can’t be single for a minute and our child ends up hanging out with him and whomever makes the mistake of becoming his new gf whenever he has visitation. It’s so pathetic.

My ex and his wife 100% believed they were better parents and she was a better mother than me. They’re now divorcing and she’s texting me venting. Bitch you made my child call you “mom” when you only saw her twice a year. Good riddance I’m not your new confidante! (I did take pleasure in her reveling all the lies he told her about me and how she’s now realizing it’s him that has the problem and he was totally projecting. Sorry not sorry!)

Yup it’s 100% projection because to them being single (read: incel) is the worst thing they can imagine. So they assume we feel the same way. If you had two islands one made up entirely of men and the other made up of entirely women you’d find the male island in complete tatters, warring with each other, drowning themselves trying to swim to the women. In contrast, the female island would be pristine, thriving, happy and peaceful. Facts.

I’ve been proposed to twice, married once. Both massive diamonds (real—I got them appraised), both by massive LVM. High value ring absolutely doesn’t automatically mean high value man but it does mean he values the proposition by starting off with a big investment. So if you’re starting your life with shit, expect shit to follow.

Yup, same thing here. Both were married then divorced partners to be together. The kicker there is these two are MISERABLE now while their ex partners moved on to better things (I hear). It does tick me off that no one batted an eye at him…he’s still a high ranking manager while the woman had to quit. I mean they’re both horrible but there was a clear double standard that irked me.

I’m sorry but I have to rant a bit here. I’m so f ING sick of women being advised to go to shelters when living with an abusive man. Wtf ass backwards kind of thinking is this?! Where are the shelters (read:slaughterhouses) we should send abusive men to while the real victims get to live comfortably in their own homes?! Why do women have to leave?? First, I want to commend your effort for vetting and prioritizing your standards. You’re heading in the right direction. But. Perfume on a first date (or really any date until you’re in a committed relationship). That sounds a little sociopathic tbh…umm, is it the perfume your ex wore, Mr. Man?? Sadly I’ve seen this happen so many times in the workplace. And usually it escalates to a full blown affair and it’s the other woman and the wife that end up getting trashed while he still gets to keep his job, keeps getting promoted, wife either forgives him and lives with the humiliation or divorces him and is now a single mom. I don’t know how much more I’d have to add other than remembering the examples I’ve uncovered…you said it pretty well! I was struggling with how to phrase it without belittling the POC/LGBTQ fight. But you said exactly what I was feeling and couldn’t quite articulate—-it’s because misogyny benefits all men and they won’t change a system that holds them up like that.

I wholeheartedly agree. When I found FDS it rocked my world so much and changed my way of thinking so fundamentally that it is exactly like I’m actively now recovering from trauma. That’s exactly what it feels like. When you come to this realization you absolutely go through the 5 stages of grief: denial (it’s not THAT bad), bargaining (ok it’s bad but not ALL men—I know some good ones!), anger (fuck! Can confirm that every last one of my male colleagues/family members who loved Obama just didn’t vote in 2016 rather than vote for Hillary. Disgusting. I went back and slammed them the minute they started to complain about Trump. You don’t like him huh? Well guess what a-hole, it’s your kind that elected him! Yeah, most didn’t like hearing that hard truth.

My mom said the same thing and I answered it for her immediately—Obama is a man. Done. What kills me are the amount of men who were diehard Obama fans but when it came time to vote for Hillary they couldn’t do it! What?! Make that make sense.

This always confused me as well. How can MOC still be sexist with all the racism they face? I mean, they already know what it feels like to be a marginalized group! I remember watching a comedy special where the comedian was a MOC and he was joking that no one has more privilege and power than a white woman and continued on with “hilarious” examples. It made me so mad (and full disclosure I’m a white woman) because he fully missed the mark. What gives a white woman privilege is she’s WHITE. That…

I am SO glad someone finally pointed this out because I was thiiiis close to writing a post on this very topic as well. Its been bothering me so much and I’m surprised I haven’t heard more said about it. I notice this everywhere in media now and it makes me so mad. They’ll condemn racism and homophobia in one breath and in the next make a misogynistic joke and everyone laughs. And you’re exactly right, it’s because it effects only women. And like we all say—misogyny benefits men therefore why ca…

I’m actually a fan of the show and I’ll tell you why. The shows co-creators are the guys that play Charlie and Mac. Rob McElhanney (Mac) was actually raised by two lesbians and Dee on the show is his wife in real life. Both Charlie and Rob have repeatedly stated that this is a show created entirely to highlight four of the worst human beings on earth. This is NOT a show about people to aspire to. I actually stopped watching Grey’s Anatomy for this very reason because the moment I heard her say it (Meredith even acts like Julia Roberts in that movie when saying it!) I experienced this very thing with a long term ex. His ex-wife was prettier than me, wealthier and privately educated. He had a good job, was very handsome, well groomed, very nice (and I’m told she was just as nice). But she wouldn’t sleep with him on the regular so guess what? He left. And was jaded. Then he met me who was “less than” his ex. And he strung me along and did a lot of talking with little action but my pickme/dumbass self at the time felt lucky he “picked me”. Finally I wised up a…

Well I’ll give my two cents :-). I think it’s generally a bad idea to date anyone you aren’t completely attracted to because chances are no matter how good you are to him, he’s likely to pick up on this (or not) and mistreat you in some way out of spite. Like many have said before me it’s sometimes the lesser conventionally attractive men that are the worst. It’s like now that they see they can get you they can get another one, too. It’s never a good idea to compromise what you want in the hopes…

Sadly this is so true and I’ve experienced it myself in various ways throughout my life. Men are friendly and helpful when you’re attractive to them but ignore you (or worse, are downright hostile) when you’re not. And honestly, I can’t tell you which is worse. When I was younger, thinner, more attractive than I am now I was constantly harassed. Sometimes I used it to my advantage but mostly it just made me terribly anxious. These are the men that will have you doing constant mental gymnastics with yourself because they are soooo good at subtle emotional manipulation. If you find yourself constantly second guessing your “ick” feelings, constantly wondering “AITA?” then you’re likely with Mr. Sensitive. Seriously though, my biggest takeaway was reading there’s an International Men’s Day that exists. Have I been living under a rock? I’m American so maybe because it’s not a thing here? UK ladies…is this really a thing?? 🤢 I honestly believe one of the most dangerous things Hollywood could do to females right now is make James Bond a woman. The triggered masculinity would be loud and painful.

My LVM ex-husband used to pull Chris Pratt like behavior when we were married. There’s a picture of us signing our wedding certificate and he’s fake acting all shocked and appalled as he signs his name. He’d refer to me as “the wife” (never “my wife”). I’ll think of more….but I will say this—-today’s subtle negging will always become tomorrow’s straight up abuse. Always. Never accept negging. We need the counter commentary from the woman who calls out gross scrotes who criticize women. You know, the one where she blows up his picture and we roast? I can’t see close up but I’m willing to bet the men commenting here actually take care of themselves.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/11/21 06:36 PM

I understand your anger. But if I may. She’s likely covering things that won’t embarrass her too much. 99% of women experience what she has so it’s more relatable when exposing herself to the masses online. No doubt she’s experienced worse. Especially as an ex member of a church known for extreme abuse of women. Don’t assume there’s not more beneath all of that. She was very courageous just putting it out there on her comfortable limits.

Yeah I commented earlier that I misread him as being the ex Mormon. That’s huge for a woman to leave that institution. Good for her. Thank you for clarifying!

51

Lol I knew it! 35 and 55 was my first guess. Re: ex-Mormons. I don’t even know where to start. I’ve known a few (all men) in my life and while they come across as respectful of women (generally not porn sick, very good manners, don’t look at other women) they are TERRIBLY misogynistic. Ex Mormon or not, they still got the same extreme patriarchal education growing up as practicing ones. So they may seem less gorilla hitting the chest macho more than most men, but deep down it’s ingrained that wo…

This made me laugh and cry simultaneously inside. I’d be a Fortune 500 CEO by now if FDS had existed when I was 18.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/11/21 03:02 PM

Yep, I made that mistake twice in my pre FDS days. Both times I was told by then BF that I was the prize among the male coworkers. Why I thought this was such a flex at the time I’ll never know. It’s hard to put into words how much time and life was wasted on being the “cool girl”. Also, I missed out on a lot of HVW friends because I was being such a LV female. Oh to go back in time!

True maybe late thirties early 40s. I was being kind about the husband at 50. I work with a ton of men that look like him and they are all around 55. He’s just not bald or overweight but he’s definitely over 50. Big age gap either way tho!

/r/FemaleDatingStrategy19/11/21 01:06 PM

Yes!!! Once I became aware of the inherent misogyny in the workplace I blatantly used men to get ahead just like they use us. I got a promotion off the back of a misogynistic man. Men are incredibly stupid if you’re attractive and they think they have a chance. Use this to your advantage and never apologize for it.

I’m glad you see it as freeing, I hope to get there. Right now I just see it as really depressing. Edit: should clarify by depressing I mean that it’s depressing women have to deal with men at all given we’re such better people. We need our own continent. Nay, planet.

They absolutely have competitions to exploit women. I’ve been told this directly on more than one occasion at work, with friends, at school….Men see you as a prize to be won and paraded in front of other men. And I’ve fallen for it and been that prize and it makes me literally sick to think about now.

Notice the subtle misogyny with the “wife was at work” in parentheses. As if he has to explain that’s why HE was there making the coffee and popping out for the milk. At least that’s how I read it.

This video just made me so mad watching him say “no” to everything. There he is standing in a tie looking ready to be the boss at work, having the most privilege to get to where he wants in life, never dealing with the ramifications of what men do in this world. I’ve done something similar to ex’s in the past and just got met with eye rolls and stop being dramatic. She mentions religion. I’m guessing the age gap has to do with this. Men need their wives young and fertile! 😒

Men use “huh” as a diversion tactic to stall for time while figuring out how to gaslight or manipulate you. They also use it when you call them out in a lie. If a man says huh in every communication and he’s not hearing impaired, RUN. Ask me how I know.

If a man is overprotective of his phone in general that’s a huge red flag. Also if he takes to much time in the bathroom or walks away on the regular when he’s on the phone. A man should be 100% comfortable for you to answer his phone if he’s driving or if he can’t get to it. Think about how you act. Do you hide your phone like that?

The worst to me are the single dads posting with pics of their children to show how ‘involved’ they are. Not only is that just awful to exploit a child for dating purposes it’s always the men that are shit dads that do this. Where I live there are exactly 3 pictures every man here posts on OLD (and usually in this exact order): 1) Holding a fish on a boat in shorts and brown flip flops 2) At the football stadium with the guys and one random girl while holding a beer and wearing brown flip flops 3) Sitting down at a family bbq outside on a lawn chair with the fam behind him. In brown flip flops.

He said it once before he basically faded out the door (not a formal break up but not really together either) to be with another woman. I watched Euphoria out of curiosity and I was floored at the amount of drug use and sexual activity. Granted I’ve been out of high school for awhile but damn society couldn’t have gone that nuts while I’ve been away???And the tired tropes of the hyper sexualized girl with alcoholic mom and absent dad, the rapey jock, the chubby girl essentially turning tricks to get validated…it was just all hedonistic bullshit IMHO.

Ooooh yes this is a good one. Another ex had a cat he claimed to love that he bought for his daughters after his divorce. First time I went to his house I saw this sweet cat but she was walking very strange. It’s so sad and true. The number of times I’ve had to be polite while being harassed is so sickening and I know we all experience it. Until men are socialized differently from birth this crap will continue. I’m floored by how many men mistake our placating flirtations born out of genuine fear for actual interest. I think women should be allowed by law to pepper spray at any instance of harassment until men finally get a clue. Kind of like spraying a cat with water when it jumps on the counter (just a funny image, I’m not advocating Kitty spraying).

Any type of movement always helps me, especially walking outdoors. Listen to music or your favorite book/podcast. It really helps work the heartache out and the vitamin D is very beneficial. AMEN. Actually, I’ll clarify that we deserve more for being held down for all of time.

I absolutely agree. I’m white and know with that comes privilege WOC aren’t afforded. It’s disheartening to hear that there are white women on FDS who would disagree with that. How can that be if we’re all on here because of male privilege? I hope that makes sense. That’s a horrible story and it’s shameful that had she been white we would all have heard about it.

Number 6 on your list is absolutely it. He’s a “wilderness guy”—he absolutely knows how long it would take before the wild did it’s thing with a dead body. He’s buying time ensuring no evidence is found and that part of the US is so massive and sparsely populated it could be easily accomplished. But him not reporting her missing, body or not, spells doom for him IMO. Couple that with the fact she’s young, pretty and white (sad but true) this does not look good for him no matter his race. Number …

I truly feel for you as I grew up in a very similar situation with a pickme mom and a bully of a step dad (I too suffered from depression as a very young child). My mom did a lot of damage and sometimes it’s hard to be around her because her life just revolves around men (at 74!!!). My step dad died when I was in high school and she never remarried (he was her third husband) and since then it’s been one after another. She has no female friends. Zero. All of her friends are men she keeps around b…

Thanks for clarifying. It’s such an assholey-odd thing to do I wanted to be sure I was reading it right! I’ve been in a similar situation with my own mother acting like I was being “melodramatic” when I’d tell her how awful my LV husband (now ex) would be towards me. It sucks so bad when your own mother willingly aids in the abuse cycle. I hope she divorces both of their shitty asses.

I always think about this when reading yet another story about a white woman disappearing or being killed by her bf/husband. It always receives widespread coverage. You can’t tell me this isn’t happening tenfold to black women yet where are their stories?? Disgraceful.

That is terrifying. I don’t trust any males around my daughter for this very reason. I won’t let her go to houses if the mom isn’t there. Some people call me too paranoid but the facts are on my side. Good call on the social media comment.

I’m confused…the husband called the wife’s mom so the wife’s mom came over to their house and refused to leave and blocked the wife’s car?

Good lord I’m sorry that happened to you! Yeah, I see your point. It’s scary how dangerous it is out there for women.

Agree but this was her fiance not some random guy she just started dating! Smh.

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around this. Did he think he could just waltz back home and no one would notice the fiancé was gone?? This kind of stuff is so terrifying. My naïveté keeps saying there should have been warning signs that this man is dangerous but the article makes it seem like they had a perfectly loving and normal relationship. Just goes to show it can happen to any one.

No worries, I appreciate the update. I think the post is a powerful reminder of how much more fighting needs to be done on behalf of women. It’s so sick that people can think this way.

Great example! Thanks! And I know we say this all the time but it is SO crucial: never EVER second guess your intuition. Had I not squelched mine so much in the past I’d be in such a better place right now. But no more! Only onwards and upwards from here!

Thank you for that clarification. As someone who basically had zero boundaries before FDS I’m still learning how to navigate and this is all immensely helpful. This and the handbook are invaluable!

Question: how do you approach telling a man about certain boundaries like the exclusivity talk time frame or when to be intimate? Do you just straight up say it?

I get what you’re saying but I also see some value in the male depravity posts. I know it helped me when I first came to FDS. It was the shock I needed to wake up and other newbies might need the same. There’s an FDS LevelUp subreddit that might have more of what you’re looking for…

True but I feel like it needs to be said here as well. I was ok with signing up for hearing tone deaf comments about how “it’s a woman’s fault blah blah blah” but it was quite another to hear about horrific child abuse.

I’m so glad you said this. I, too, have worried that I was a narcissist and it took a therapist pointing out that narcissists usually aren’t capable of recognizing it in themselves nor do they ever worry about being one. I love the narcissistic fleas comment. I’ve never heard of that but it makes so much sense.

I’d check and see if he has a gf/wife. If he does then he most certainly does not want to “just catch up”. In my experience with this sort of random meeting it almost always is some dude just trying to cheat under the guise of hey let’s just meet up and chat. Nope.

Came here to say this about the other men. I know it’s so tempting when you’re fresh out of a break up to jump into something new but it’s not a good idea. You’ll likely find yourself with another LVM (same shit different day). Once you’re out of there give yourself time to heal first. Much love 💕

“Every therapist I went to ‘took his side’”. Girl same. There’s a special hell for mental health providers that do this. My last LTR with a charming covert narc was so bad (years of mixed signals, love bombing followed by silent treatment and breadcrumbing) that when I went to my last therapist she diagnosed me with BPD. After my own research and finally finding a good therapist—surprise, surprise—I was just in an awful relationship that was literally making me crazy. Since he’s been gone all th…

American here and I love your last comment. I was trying to come up with the biggest threat to women for the USA (workplace inequality and harassment, broken court system, expensive healthcare, etc etc) but you nailed it. It’s just apathy. No one cares enough, especially men, to exact any real reform. And Texas basically speaks for the rest of the country in showing the world that we view women as second class citizens.

I thought he was a creepy pedophile even when I saw it as a kid! It never even occurred to me that it was supposed to be a love story because his actions were that bad. I was so confused with the ballroom scene…why is he watching her like that??Ew, she’s supposed to be a child! That being said, LOVE the movie :-). What about the movie Willow? I knew a man who told me he cheated on his wife because she made him suffer and “waste away” (his words 🤢) because she didn’t have sex with him anymore after 20 years of marriage. He 100% believed he was in the right. He also said he hooked up with a different woman early on in their relationship but couldn’t remember if he was married to her yet (huh?!) and it was ok because they “had all their clothes on” (i.e. not sex so it was ok 🤷‍♀️). Cherry on top of this scrote shit sandwich is he PRIZES…

Don’t forget we elect disgusting predators to be in the fucking White House. And it’s not just Trump (looking at you JFK). I get so nauseous when people celebrate these people. And it’s everywhere. All I see is one giant middle finger to women when this happens. Fuck men in power and the sense of entitlement that comes with it. So sick of it.

I made the mistake (pre-FDS) of telling a “Mr. Sensitive” type that my love language was words of affirmation. My god cue the subsequent love bombing language and mirroring. It took way longer than I care to admit before I realized his actions weren’t matching his words. I was just so starved for kindness and connection from a man at the time that I didn’t connect the dots. NEVER AGAIN. And also fuck words of affirmation.

Back at age 27, a very good (female!) family doctor recognized I wasn’t hypothyroid, I was just depressed. I got on meds and started therapy and my then new husband proceeded to tell me I didn’t need any of it, I was fine, I was just being dramatic and going way too far 🙄. Divorced his ass after realizing he was just terrified a professional and my new improved life were going to reveal him to be the selfish, NV narcissist he turned out to be. Edit: Excuse me, always was.
