it's a numbers game. As you say, some approaches go great and some go horribly. People try to find patterns ('was it my approach angle on that set? Did I smile more in the other set??' etc etc) but all it ACTUALLY was was that the first girl was just more attracted to you. pros like tom torerro claim 1 in 40 (although he faked infields so can't be trusted) It's not a metric you should worry about as it's unique to the person.
