I think the proper term for it is dread game, but it is excellent advice. Another good one is the 2:1 ratio. Joe probably feels the same as I do, raised with that Catholic conservatism, he's trying to find that good quality woman that he probably sees in his mother, one with good morals and who isn't a complete slut, like the girls he treats like shit, who he probably perceives as having lesser value, and not the qualities of that wifey girl.
