Feynman never had a problem being a nerd. Don't play up your nerdiness. Don't react to attempts to label you as a nerd. It doesn't matter if you're the lead lab tech at fermilab, you can just be a regular dude who's good at his job, too.

The point of the article was not about compliments at all. It was about high risk (polarizing) openings. It's unfortunate he picked the "cute/delicious" example opener, because it detracts from the point. Check out the point where he talks about asking for directions as an opener. That's a safe opener. He explains why he teaches it (it's easy to do), but then goes on to say why it's a relatively weak opener (it's not filtering out girls who aren't interested).

Totally missed it. The idea is open risky. If she wants to reject you, she won't feel obligated to let you down easy. If she doesn't reject you, he argues it will make her feel more attracted to you.

I did improv for a year. I even did a few amateur shows with my friends (we brought in a few $100.... a net of $10 after house costs!) Improv is a lot of fun and really helps you get "out of your head." However, I had trouble transitioning those skills to regular conversation. The problem is that, on stage, everyone is working with you. It's your troupe's responsibility to keep the scene moving. But in real life, you can't rely on others to keep a conversation moving.
