All I knew when I was a kid was that this guy said I was special, just the way I am. I didn't even know what "universal love" was until a couple of years ago, either. Realizing that I was the one holding my own self back by not playing the game (whatever the game might be) by the actual rules, but instead by the rules I'd made up in my own head. You know, rules like "you should buy her a drink/dinner" or "girls like nice guys" or "bros before hoes."
