It's really the only option you're allowed as a male who wishes to be sexually active but not worry about being shouldered with the responsibilities of a child. Unfortunately, it's apparently hard to get a vasectomy if you're single and under 25; there have been reports of doctors denying the procedure to men.

That's the common argument I see as well; that, if you have sex without a condom, then you knew the risks involved and are obligated to be responsible for them. What confuses me is that when people say the same thing about women ("she had sex without birth control, she knew the risks") but they're not held to the same level of...sexual responsibility, I guess? that men are when it comes to child birth and pregnancy.

She hasn't been in jail for eleven years, though. She killed her husband in '02, was found guilty in '06, and was first granted parole in '11. So it's more like five years jail time. EDIT: It was actually more than that, see further down in the comment chain. I was assuming she was out on bond during her trials.
