Three strikes & you're out. Especially at 59 years old. It's been 40 yrs since I've gone a whole year without a wife or girlfriend. I've never been able to keep it casual with women, so I think it's just best to not get started because I really like the peace.

I had to grieve during my marriage. It was like Titanic, just slowly sinking week by week for a little over two years. Once it was really over, and the last lifeboat sailed away, I felt free. Not to say I never felt sad about how such a great marriage went to shit. Maybe if I had the chance to actually grieve normally, I could have purged those feelings organically.

Hard to say. She claimed the passion was gone for us after my prostate surgery affected my sex drive, but now she's living with a guy that's pushing 70 (and not that gracefully). Can't judge a book by the cover, tho. They also live in his house in the country with animals and shit, which is the total opposite of our lifestyle. But I guess living with him has got some financial benefits cause he bought her a Can-Am and I doubt if she pays any bills other than her car payment. Looks like a keeper.…

This dude is preaching, man. Also, the more attractive or vain a woman is, the quicker the stomach empties. I wrote my ex a couple of poems when we were dating, which she kept, obviously. Every couple of years, she would dig them up, with this look of utter disappointment, just to show me how I wasn't measuring up to that "better" version of myself. I was just trying to show her how wonderful I believed she was. I never dreamed it would be used against me. I was still very affectionate and roman…

So true, man. People are just selfish now, and that's reality. I sometimes blame myself for not cultivating those bonds while I was married. And I'm 59, so I blame the era of men I grew up in somewhat. But the truth is, my ex is the only person who will take a minute out of their day every few weeks or so just to see how I am or how my aging parents are. That includes aunts, uncles, and cousins, too. For the past two years, if I want to connect with someone, I always gotta call or text. It's bee…

May sound messed up, but I was glad. She was always the one breaking it off and wanting to reconcile, and I was never strong enough to say no until finally this fifth time I said no more. Her moving on let me off the hook till I could build my inner strength, number one. But more than that, it showed me how insecure she is. She couldn't be alone long enough to confront her demons and heal from her trauma that ultimately destroyed our marriage. Accept that she's running away with baggage that she…

Her brother dying from colon cancer around the same time definitely triggered her trauma response, but she chose space instead of leaning on each other because the changes in my sex drive made her unwanted. You know how that story ends.

A few years ago, I would have strongly disagreed bc I met and married a wonderful woman I met a few months after I was separated from my 2nd wife. We both said we didn't want to get serious, but I suck at keeping relationships casual. We were living together four months later. We were blissfully married for ten years until some unresolved baggage from her past traumas manifested themselves when I got prostate cancer. The next five years were so painful that it started to affect my health (ulcers…

Damn! What a ride! Can't wait for the movie to come out! I would cast Florence Pugh as the crazy incestual wife.

We were together for 19yrs. We've been divorced for a little over a year. Separated for two. I'm 59. She's 62F. No kids together. The friendship was her idea. I usually cut ties. I know that she regrets losing me, and I know she'd reconcile with me if I wanted to, but she's moved on, and I support her current relationship fully. I don't date because I'm enjoying my freedom and I live with my aging parents and take care of them full time. I don't know if she'd be as cool if I was dating or seeing…

Women end 80% of marriages. The marriages end because they're being sold a lie that they all deserve better and can get better. Some guys do suck at being husbands (I fucked up my first marriage, I own that) but DAMN, 80% of us!?! It doesn't change what I did or make it right, but the lame ass excuses I hear for leaving men have made me feel better about the lame ass reasons I left my first wife. But you reap what you sow (I got left by a woman who I spoiled and bent over backward for) and she w…

They call stage 5 "closure" = I dump the blame without any accountability on their part. They may give it to their shrink, but you'll never hear it. NEVER.

Investment. People expect some level of security and peace of mind for your future to come with the commitment they make to their spouse. You sacrifice things to achieve this. Think of a 30yr mortgage. At the end of the term you expect to have a forever home for your retirement. What if after 15yrs the bank cancels the mortgage and you're back to renting and you're 15yrs older now. Sure you had a nice place for a few years but if you did your part in your relationship with the bank you gotta fee…
