When my ex asked for it I went on a counsel search spree, asking everyone divorced I knew about their experience, their context and their results... My marriage was better than almost all of them, almost all remarried, and all had great advice for my context. The people who didn't ask about my context, all had absurd advice if they provided any

I thought my "April to September" divorce was fast. Yours was really something else... But in pretty much every other aspect it's very similar: mutual respect, doing what's best for our daughter, we don't stop caring for each other, etc. I think it takes two reasonable people who don't betray the other and just manage to recognize when things aren't going well to make it out through divorce in a good way ...

I went with Rivers McNamara, downtown Austin. She was great at advising me on my negotiation, I didn't go to court and our separation was mostly "amicable". I can vouch for Mrs McNamara as a counselor, can't say anything about court and stuff...

Yes My divorced friend went through it, first thing therapist says is "This is meant to figure out if there's anything to rescue here, and if there isn't, to separate in a peaceful way". I'd say that worked out. And me, I heard so much bullshit there that it made it so much easier to understand why I was drinking so much while married, and my healing process was so easy. Doesn't mean couples therapy always works to keep y'all together, but it does work to learn if you can be together or better o…

Took me 3 weeks since the day she asked for divorce (April 16, plus 5 months of therapy before that, since mid December). It wasn't the time what began fixing me but long conversations, where I realized that everyone I did for her wasn't just ignored but deprecated, in the end I realized love was lost long ago and this contempt towards everything I did FOR HER and the willful ignoring of what I did for our daughter was killing me on the inside. I also realized that her life was now revolving aro…

Walk in a park, go camping, go to public concerts, do cheap fun stuff, not worry about what people would think of the cost of a gift, but of how much people would love a well thought gift, turn on the TV once or twice a week instead of keeping it on 6 hours a day

I'm getting divorced in a similar situation: before we start hating each other. The next 6 months look bad, the next few years after that look great

If you understand Spanish, half of Ricardo Arjona's songs from 1998 to 2010... That's part of what I got

Reasons. He's been living with us for a year and we tried our best to help him be independent. He's going back to his mom's tomorrow. Stbx is probably moving out completely this weekend. My daughter is 1 year 10 months old. I'll take your advice on minimizing contact until divorce is final.

I downloaded dating apps the week after being asked for a divorce. Just seeing someone liked my profile was a motivation boost, and helped me in accepting the upcoming separation. Haven't dated anyone yet, but I'm looking at it as part of the healing process. I will definitely be very discreet though.

I'm gonna get my savings account to 4 digits. All the family money went to her bad financial habits that worried the death to me, worries she called "my obsessions"

I'm in Texas too. We have a house, 2 cars and a toddler daughter; we want to be as peaceful as possible for the good of our daughter. She also makes a lot more than I do and we're in agreement on how to split baby's expenses. She asked for divorce April 16. We're in agreement in nearly everything, we'll probably file within a month once we have our agreement in place. Don't know what'll happen next

These are things I read last week, just a couple of days after my wife of 11 years asked for a divorce Don’t try to make sense out of crazy or you will go crazy You must accept the fact that the person you were in love with is dead and gone forever. What you are dealing with now is an entirely new human entity and for some of us, a true enemy.

Thank you, seems like that's the exact alternative I need

Thank you, that's probably not going to work because she also wants out of the loan & title. Researching more I found out about mortgage assumptions
