You have to accept that you play a role in your seclusion too. You may have an awful situation with your physical deformity, but more than likely you are blocking people out, at least some of the time, by presuming they don't want to interact with you. You've made up your mind about people before you speak to them the same way you imagine they've made up their mind about you. Therapy is probably your best bet.

There's no wrong in doing 50% less work for 100% effectiveness. But the thing is, do you really know how to evaluate effectiveness? Not the person you're asking, but I found that starting to listen to my internal voice telling me what I need to do, rather than listening to other people (family, friends, significant other, mental health professionals) was the catalyst that helped me work on myself. The "cost of sex" is a widely studied phenomenon in evolutionary biology. It's a real thing. This is an interesting article, but the research isn't meant to help draw conclusions for human populations. I think the first paragraph was just meant to be an attention grabber.
