This usually occurs in your mid twenties after your one real long term (multi-year if you have one) break up occurs. In the past these people would have gotten married, 20 years ago they would have gotten married. Wow, that rings very true. The taking up as much space as possible is just a psychological thing. Dominant males take up more space. (It also increases testosterone apparently... I'm sure I saw a study or two posted on here about dominant open postures doing that.) The study you're thinking of is this work by Amy Cuddy.

You're clearly projecting too much into a woman who has never slept with you, I'd clear my head a bit and find someone else to occupy your time. If she's into you she'll come back if you don't act too butthurt and just stop contact. It's quite clear that you're pulling too much, need to push her away a little bit.
