Or even like 2 weeks, in his little head. "I gave her some time and I warned her that I would expect her to be on her feet within two weeks. But she doesn't seem to be making any progress, even though she agreed to it. It's been four weeks and she's still lying in bed past the alarm, and I even need to google how much formula to give the baby"

Beck knew there was something off about Joe. She did what so many women do now ... ignored her instincts. That's the thing about Joe (and it's beautifully portrayed in Season 3 with Marienne as well). There's something off about him. A healthy, normal woman can sense it ... that's why Beck was lukewarm about him ... and why Marienne put him off (at first).

You don't know that most major news organizations are owned by only a few parent companies and you call yourself a journalist? I have doubts about your "journalism"

Thanks for this post, this was really nice to read ☺️ Sometimes we can get so caught up trying to cope with our treatment that we lose sight of what we’re aiming for.

Yo thank you so much for explaining this because I was struggling too (I love cooking and having meals with people, for instance). The reciprocity is the crucial part. I got it now!

So my time in the PickMe ghetto didn't make me conclude that women are generally "just as bad as men." Instead I'm pretty convinced that a system that didn't require women to suck up to abusive men for measly token positions and pathetic perks would bring a different kind of woman to the fore-- basically the ones getting trampled and discouraged in the current system. I think it would also bring to prominence a different breed of men because being a di*k-swinging boor wouldn't go over well witho…

And of course I think there was maybe some hope that men would change a little more as well, and as a third wave feminist who is now an older single mom, I myself was shocked at how tenacious the traditional demands and expectations of being a mom and wife were in the relationship that I eventually left. I felt like I took an express train to Patriarchyville and I'm sure I'm not the only person with that experience. Preeeaaaach. I was with a "good man" for 7 years and I still think about how rid…

I also think that people just interact this way; this is how we were supposed to do things. How many times have we met a guy and tried to make it work because he looked good on paper? You can't (and shouldn't) ignore your gut about someone. You can't fake attraction.

I couldn't agree more with all of this! I've been against online dating more or less from the beginning. Also in my 30s (no kid though). It's my firm belief that a man worth his salt will approach me in public. I don't want him otherwise. It's hard to say how this will all shake out once the pandemic is over, but I also think that a lot of people have had to do a lot of soul-searching during this time, and we might be seeing some optimistic results from it. I live in perpetual hope for humanity …

I was always SO insulted when my ex took photos of me -- always bad angles and mid-expression (which he insisted I "looked great"). It was really weird. I do think it was intentional. It's quite insidious because it's one of those "grey-area" easily-deniable pinpricks. Just a little reminder that you ain't all that.

I remember this happening! I was in a relationship as a forever girlfriend with a man for 7 years. We hadn't slept together in 5 or 6 months and the thought of sleeping with him again was not appealing ... even though I, in theory, was still attracted to some parts of him. Life was stable, but it was constricting, and I couldn't see my way out of it, because he was a "good man". (Narrator: He wasn't) Then one day, Glee (the TV show) had a guest star that, for whatever reason ... hit all my butto…

So far be it from me to defend upper middle class white ladies even though my mom is one (half of you suckers voted for Trump), but they can be abused, too. Always remember that the issue is shitty male behavior and that you're not entertaining it. I don't know how useful it is to bring up that RP men "hate" upper middle class white women when the truth is that they hate all women. I'm also not comfortable with holding up these women as an example of how we "should" act.

It's also a way of redirecting the conversation and putting you on the defense. It is a silencing tactic. See also: a partner who accuses you of being "mad", when you're actually one of the following: Disappointed Frustrated Calmly pointing out something that you don't like Don't fall for it!

That just sounds so infantilising. “Tell them how you made it!” as if she were bragging he could stand up on his own two legs without help! You know she is just trying to encourage more of this “helping in the kitchen” behavior but she sounds like his mommy not his wife, poor woman

I honestly think any man worth his salt will want an interesting, complex, and good-looking woman. A man who is looking for an unequal situation is not a worthy prospect.

As an Asian woman, gross. I had an Asian friend who would only date guys with Asian fetishes because that's how she knew they "liked her" ... seemed surprised when I told her it was a rule of mine to never go out with a guy who was only into Asian women.

People with regular parents don’t understand what it takes for a child to cut off their parent! It’s not like the child WANTS to be parentless. The child will have done everything they could. This is why it’s a huge red flag when a parent complains that their kid cut them off. What did you do to deserve it, Dad?

I was also an alcoholic waitress who realized the kind of man I want isn't going to want the kind of woman I was. I realize that this approach is a little backwards or sideways compared to what is usually preached in this sub, but it's the truth. I still have faith that HVM exist, and one of my goals is finding a great partner that I can build a great life with. I can't do that if I am not also great, myself. This is the hardest bit for me. I veered off-track myself and I’m still having a hard time sometimes not resenting myself for past mistakes and letting go of what-could-have-beens. I struggle with this too, even though I’m able to recognize those thoughts for what they are and “put them away”. It isn’t easy to understand fully what’s been done, either to you or by you, which is why (in my opinion) some people opt to stay in the dark (like there is that thread I saw today about not being able to …

100%!! No shade on people who want to make a career out of hospitality, but for the majority of people (especially FOH) it’s just a way of making money while you do what you really want “on the side”. It’s a tough trap to get out of that’s only now (kind of) getting recognized.

Realizing that sub was bad was what eventually led me here. I, like so many women here, have seen the disconnect between what's preached and what actually shows up at your door. So glad to cut out the bullshit.

No. No way. I want sex so much that even Burt from Sesame Street is starting to look good. But I know what casual sex means (it means I get tossed aside, more often than not) so I've chosen to not partake. It does NOT mean I am demisexual. I also think that "demisexual" is a potentially harmful way of labeling dissatisfaction ... I take responsibility for my own sexuality, and that includes being strict about who I let in.

I have bought this book multiple times -- at least 5 -- and given it away every time. There is always a woman who needs to read it. I've just given away my last copy ... time to buy another one. This book gave me my life back after I left my last abusive relationship. It also reset my thinking in SO many ways. It is an incredibly important book.
