I've been with my HVM fiance for three years now, We've been through good and bad times, seen eachother at our worst and best and I can safely say I know him and who he really is. I only learned about the HVM vs LVM concept recently by discovering this sub, and the more I read the more I started appreciating the man I'm with. So here are my experiences and why I think he's truly high value: He's always respectful, even when he's stressed, angry or frustrated. He has never spoken to me in a disre…

I'm like you, very low treshold due to past traumatic experiences. My fiancé lost his temper just once in the four years we've been together, and it never went beyond a moderately raised voice and some mildly irrational statements. He didn't act disrespectful or called me names, and he calmed down quickly and apologised. I didn't perceive it as threatening at all, he lost his temper in a normal way, he didn't lose control. I have a hairtrigger fight or flight response but I felt safe during the …

He wears it but doesn't re-apply and stays in the sun too long, he thinks getting a mild sunburn is normal, he used to tell me 'first I get red and then I get a tan'... No dear, you get red and then you get millions of freckles, that is not a 'tan'.

Not being vigilant enough with wearing sunblock, he can't go around acting like he's not a ginger 😐

I'm 42 now and it's great, I have stopped caring about what men think of me, couldn't care less. Getting older is so liberating for women, never ever let anyone make you believe that younger is intrinsically more valuable.

Thank you for this, never knew the name for this kind of behavior.

Yeah 'super into gaming' would make me run for the hills.

So true, I can totally relate! He is much more structured and disciplined than me in some aspects, and I totally felt the pressure in the beginning of our relationship. My house is a lot cleaner now than it used to be, even though he never criticized me about it. I want to live up to the standards he applies to himself, and it's not always easy ;) but it goes both ways.

Thank you! They do exist, I think the problem is that these kind of men are not so visible, they don't go to bars, don't do online dating and are not out chasing women. They are leading their life which is filled with hobbies and friends and family. And I think the best way to find them is doing the same thing with your own life, focus on your own interests and not on finding a man. I met him at an art opening, we had a nice casual conversation and later he found me on facebook and messaged me. …

I also have nothing against gaming as a hobby per se, and I think your husband has a healthy attitude about it. It's all about how they handle it, same with sports. He sounds wonderful! I don't think it's pure luck that you found him though, as you say: you knew what you wanted and wouldn't settle for less, I believe you attract what you project.

I live in Belgium, Europe. Most men I've been with before were not like him, they weren't bad or narcissist but more like children in a man's body. I had given up on men after I left my previous relationship, and decided to be celibate for three years, went to therapy to fix my own issues, got in shape, focused on my work, got myself a big fluffy dog for affection and company and I became really happy with myself and being alone. When I felt ready to get back on the dating scene I made a list of…

He sounds wonderful! And reminds me of my man... he also really listens to me when I talk about 'women problems', my ex would become defensive whenever I talked about feminist issues, my fiance never does, he listens and empathizes. I had some irregular and painful periods for a while and told him about it, then he goes and googles it to better understand me and how to help and comfort me. The gift thing too, he gives the best presents, always personalized... You are right, the bar for men is so…
