I'm the same way. I don't want to socialize with strangers due to anxiety, but if they had a cat I'd talk to them because I love cats. She may be the same way: doesn't like people, loves animals.

Oh good grief, get over yourself. She was being safe because she was alone and you are probably bigger and/or stronger than her and could easily overpower her. I assume you would train your daughter to do the same thing if a stranger tried to talk to her while she was alone. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Ps. People get robbed and murdered and raped in nice neighborhoods, too.
