Male body dysmorphia and women’s contributions to such - the exact topic of OP’s post. So now that I am aware that you (1) are still relying on one piece of literary work that literally no one discusses anymore and did not have any comparable effects on male body image as do works by male creators going back centuries and (2) you don’t even know what conversation you’re participating in, I bid you adieu.

And once again, you’re still (1) providing only a singular example of a woman depicting an “ideal” image of a man in popular media targeting female audiences and (2) are doing so without showing its significant impact on pop culture, consumerism, and, most importantly, social issues such as mental health and body image crises. That 50 shades shit came and went as quickly as your logical thinking process. Most rational people understand that something “doing numbers” does not, as is the case here…

I’m pretty sure I said such things were in the category of “women depicting ‘ideal men.’” Like I said below, read again and respond to what I actually said. Thanks.

No, I am not seriously telling you that 50 shades is “for male consumption” because I never once stated that. Especially since I clearly wrote that such things were “a super-niche market of women depicting ‘ideal men’ (ex. Romance novels…).” So read that again, then feel free to respond to what I actually said. Thanks.

Yes, it was the damn women that thought of this scene, filmed and edited it, said “this is an absolutely normal body,” threatened to riot if cut from the movie, then flocked to the theaters and threw their bras at the screen in orgasmic glee…while their 100% totally uninterested brothers/boyfriends/husbands begrudgingly waited for the skinny underdog kid in glasses to come save the day.

The male power fantasy has been largely created by, depicted by, and reiterated by male creators for largely male consumption in the arts and media going back decades. Centuries, if we’d really like to go there. What is and looks powerful and attractive subtly changes over years, of course, but nonetheless female creators are not the hive minds behind these “idealistic” body images, nor have these body images been largely created for female consumerism. You can name a movie or two or a super-nic…

Once again, those aren’t options. So we’ll just have to disagree on that. I’ve had this argument with my father, who felt that women had more options because men approach them. Just because a man approaches me doesn’t make him an option. The VAST majority of these interactions are disgusting and/or scary (which is why, yes, I carry pepper spray, a taser, and am getting my CCW permit). If those are the types of “options” y’all want, you can have them.

I agree that she needs to let him go on his way and be grateful he’s out of her life. And people do grow feelings for others, so that’s understandable. So I’ll leave that at that. But where are these raining options that you speak of? Please let us women know. I think men who think this confuse quantity for quality. Every time I walk out my door, yes, I am approached by men. However, 9-10 times out of 10, their approaches are vile, aggressive, disrespectful, objectifying, and often lead to downr…

The guy she “gave it up to” wasn’t trying to deceive her by faking a platonic friendship. And in that situation, she was able to make an informed decision about the kind of relationship that was formed. This “fake friend” guy did not give her that option. From jump he was deceiving her. A good person doesn’t do that. And I never said you can’t lust after someone. Everyone does. The issue here is the deception. He played the friend role knowing his intention, then pulled the rug from under her. A…

“Female manipulation” - yet the man in this friendship was the one plotting for 2 years. Sound logic.

While it may be natural on his end, It is dehumanizing. We are human beings. We are friends. But because a vagina is involved, the rules are different? I understand he’s hurt and why he ended the friendship, but as I’ve always said, “losing a friend always hurts more than losing a romantic partner.” Men do not understand how painful it is to lose someone who was your true friend, but only purported to be your friend and ended the friendship because they had ulterior motives the whole time. The p…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
