You should have told her not to fucking touch you. Add psycho peepers for effect. Sometimes showing teeth helps, just enough though. Too much is confusing and non threatening.

In that situation no matter if it's a male or female that throws the first punch I believe one is supposed to snitch to the administration. As they both had a lot to lose. He says she hit me, they discipline her. That's as good as it gets. She wasn't a threat if she was, then defending himself would be justified.
