Many parts of your story resonate with my own. I think what may be very difficult for you is to accept what is happening. The same thing happened to me. Being a confident, rational, committed, and good-head-on-my-shoulders type of person, it was SO difficult for me to understand and accept what my spouse was doing. I feel the same way. I think the regret of not having kids falls under the general umbrella of "death of the dream you had with your ex". Try your best to stay positive. Just as your divorce was probably a surprise to you, there may be good surprises waiting for you in the future.
