Honestly working in the restaurant industry for 14 years has really solidified my disinterest in dating anybody in the foodservice industry. I won’t even date former foodservice industry men unless it was like fast food when they were in high school or something. You couldn’t pay me. Almost every single server, bartender, manager, and chef I have worked with has been scummy as fuck. If you want STDs and to be cheated on, dating foodservice industry workers is the quickest way to catch them all.

Honestly, once I discovered that single people can become foster parents & that sometimes you can go the foster-to-adopt route, a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I’m a bit different in that I don’t want babies, dreaded the thought of being pregnant, and didn’t want to pass on certain hereditary issues, but still - I want children. Having my biological clock ticking and worrying about my fertility window closing and how I had to find somebody to have a kid with soon was stressful and sti…

That will be me if/when I find somebody haha. I hate cooking and am not good at it, so whoever my partner is needs to be the one to do that. My sister is lucky in that they both cook together so it’s rarely her making any specific meal 100% - they almost always tag team it. Especially because she had ADHD and sometimes forgets the stove is on…

These are definitely good questions to ask. I think in the end a big differentiator is whether they are a gamer and identify as such, OR do they just like video games as one of multiple hobbies. I think these questions help suss that out. Somebody who has hobbies that include playing video games isn’t going to sacrifice important aspects of their life for video games. They aren’t addicted. Usually their game choice is also more varied and the people who just play video games (vs being a “gamer”)…

I am the same way - except for my last date, which was a fucking disaster. I gave him a list of restaurants to choose from because I’m Celiac and am limited (probably gonna change that) and he picked the most expensive one. I’ve been there a few times before on dates, it’s like $50-$150 steaks (more expensive is the wagyu - totally worth it). This man has told me he makes good money multiple times, has bought me expensive items before exclusivity, so I know he can afford this. At the end, he tur…

I like the sentiment but tbh I don’t think 6 months is nearly long enough to vet and any man pushing for marriage or talking about marriage at the 6 month mark is hella sus. People can be so good at hiding themselves, 6 months is barely enough time to start seeing the red flags start to trickle out. I can think of a few relationships where we were “compatible” at that mark but by 1 year I realized it was trouble. It’s just not enough time. Yes, you want somebody who is secure in their commitment…

This may or may not be helpful. There are a few main things I do, because often my self doubt is me intellectualizing the options and losing sight of my truth. 1) I pretended to be a boss bitch who deserves the world until I became that. Internalizing that attitude takes practicing it, there was no talking myself into it. I nurtured that little voice in me that said “hey fuck you I’m awesome” until it became big, and whenever I doubt myself I draw upon its energy. 2) I imagine the situation from…

This is a good range - the only caveat I would have is that I wouldn’t date anybody under 25, just because life stage can be vastly different in the younger 20s. Our brains don’t even really fully develop until about 25, so for 27 my range would’ve been 25 - 32.

This is also my issue. Do men ever ask you for a list of restaurants that are safe for you & plan with that? That is the tactic my sister used & her HVM had asked for a list to be safe - but I know his intention was because my sister & I are very sensitive to gluten & he showed his attention and learning about it in other ways. Made his whole house gluten free for her. :) It’s hard to navigate because on one hand I don’t want to plan, but on the other hand just because a restaurant has gluten fr…

Literally in the same boat with you re: the bipolar. There are some genes I would like to pass on but the risk of bipolar is too high - if it was possible to select out the bipolar maybe I’d consider it, but damn, bipolar fucking sucks. It’s irresponsible, if you know reproducing will likely or potentially give the child a condition that will make their life harder, to reproduce. How is not wanting to have babies with somebody who you know has those risks eugenics? Sorry that I don’t want to int…

The difference is intent and the way the message is delivered. “That skirt doesn’t fit the dress code of the place we are going” is way different than “you look like a whore in that skirt, I’m not going out with you looking like that, change it or we aren’t going.” One is about giving a heads up that the person is potentially putting themself (and to some extent you) in an embarrassing position, and the other is about actually controlling somebody’s behavior. If I’m being taken to dinner at a co…

Disagree with them. Even if it’s something minor, like a band or TV show. Even better - have an opinion on it/a reason why. The amount of men who freak tf out when I say I don’t like the Big Bang Theory show, and then explain why, is too damn high. But the best is disagreeing with them on something like values/beliefs, and then having evidence or articles or whatever that informed your opinion, and offering to let him read them. I had two men block me for that one. 😎 Insecure men can’t handle be…

I think there is a social component in most things humans do. We are social animals. And while a lot of our modern beauty standard comes from the male gaze and patriarchy, humans do find different things naturally aesthetically pleasing. I love peonies and lilies, but I think daffodils and carnations are ugly as hell. I like lighter colors, particularly the color pink. I dislike deep and dark colors and I especially hate the color orange. It’s gross and I hate it and I want it far away from me a…

Having once been the person who needed advice/a kind word every day/been an emotional drain - it’s not cold of you to not have the energy for it. It’s not your responsibility. The people that sacrificed themselves like that for me when I was younger and struggling just enabled the behavior. I realized I was destroying my relationships and hurting my friends and family because I was allowing myself to let the mental illness consume me. I’ll always have bipolar, but I take my meds and have develop…

I’m so excited to see somebody else who feels the same way. Honestly it’s maybe weird but I didn’t even realize it was an option until I saw some commercial on TV for foster-to-adopt & it like changed my life, cuz I want kids but not babies, and never want to be pregnant.

I got the first Moderna shot about a week before my period was due to start and everything commenced as normal. Only side effect was the sore arm. I hear the 2nd shot is supposed to be worse so we’ll see then.

This is something I have struggled with in relationships that I’ve recently decided I didn’t need to put up with anymore. FDS helped by validating that I didn’t need a partner to be “fulfilled” - but being pressured to orgasm has been such a prevailing theme in my relations with men. “I want to make you come” & “I’m a giver” and all sorts of other bullshit platitudes - I thought there was something wrong with me because these men who were supposedly “good” at what they did couldn’t get me off, a…

I recently got a new job that pays well. I’m on the operations team - which is entirely composed of women - and we work really well together. I’m also respected and asked for input and thanked for my contributions, even by the men. Things are looking up for me for 2021, and I love that the people I will be working closely with are women who are all in higher positions in the company yet are still graceful and strict with their boundaries and expectations. It’s good to not be surrounded by men al…
