I write a lot. And when you write a lot, you learn some stuff about writing. Stuff like common phrases you repeat. This breaks flow/immersion for the reader. So you alter your phrasing to eleminate the redundancies. Eventually, you expand the amount of ways you can express a thought. They become interchangeable. Without even thinking/feeling/noticing/knowing/seeing/etc. it. In the context of my original statement of "feeling my word has worth", you seemed to have projected your own thoughts into…

Semantics. Really? Out of all of the possible counterpoints you could have made, you choose a fucking common expression. inb4 that's what you get for expressing yourself over asserting yourself. Zing!

Huh. TIL. I guess it's one of those things that doesn't happen terribly often. On the Wikipedia entry, it says it's not typically prosecuted. And being in California my whole life, I'm not surprised that I haven't heard much of it.

It functions as both. Depending on your culture, there are different meanings attached to it that you are expected to uphold. For example, it's not illegal to cheat on your spouse. That's not the legal contract. However, in our Western society, it is frowned upon. If you marry someone, and you both know what that social contract entails (usually a pretty big 'Duhhhhh'), then you don't really have any ground to stand on. Wife won't sleep with you? Maybe that's more telling of your relationship, a…

You're reaching; You don't have that information. For all you know, she just happened to see the phone as it went off. Regardless, that wasn't my point. If you're going to criticize someone's behavior there's no need to construct a false target to tear down. There's no need to debase the OP with said Strawman. It makes those who do look like assholes, and detracts from the overall purpose of TRP.

I have to agree with you. I'm sorry, but marriage is a social contract. The Strawman in this thread is a little overwhelming. I see no sex being held hostage by means of baby, nor do I see her acts as entirely selfish. I see poor communication on both parts, and the perspective of a confused woman. Unfortunately we don't have the male perspective, but still this 'cunt punting', 'selfish bitch', and 'dumb cunt' bullshit is why TRP gets a lot of negative press...

I think you're referring to rationalization in general. From what I understand, "Hamstering" has a specific context that has nothing to do with What OP is talking about. Just a person trying to get out of paying for damages, gender politics has nothing to do with it, IMO.

Rationalization Hamster - The tendency for women to use rationalization to resolve mental conflict and avoid cognitive dissonance. The core mechanism that allows women to say one thing and do a different thing.

Sounds like any given individual trying to weasel out of a situation to me...

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
