How seriously she felt about the relationship. To 19 year old me, relationships were about partying and fucking. So if someone cheats, whatever, onto the next one. I just assumed that’s how she felt as well. Never really thought too hard about it before that.

“It’s not cheating when you’re more than 100 miles away”. I used to hear this a lot when I worked as a stagehand, and my sailor friend says they say it too. It’s often said tongue-in-cheek. But some people use it as some sort of justification.

Definitely a common thing, what’s why I mentioned it. “100 mile rule”

Cheated twice on my college gf. Didn’t really take relationships seriously back then. She was devastated when she found out. I shouldn’t have been surprised but her reaction really shocked me. Changed my perspective. Would never do it again. So I usually have some pushback against the typical reddit “once a cheater, always a cheater” mantra. Because I know it’s not always the case. Also, of my closest friends, 2/8 have cheated at some point. One of them stopped, one continues to do so (he’s a sa…

I’m sure you can garner more about my life than I know from a few sentences. Please do elaborate on how I’m being used.

I’m in a monogamous relationship because it’s great. That said, I don’t really feel monogamous. We broke up for a while during our college years, when she told me she slept with others it really didn’t have an effect on me. I’m hopelessly in love with her, but love and sex feel like very different things in my head. I’ve shared this with her. We’ve discussed poly/swinging a couple times, but she doesn’t think she can handle it. I’ll always choose her over other women, but I’d be lying if I said …

I think we can file a coma under “special case”. I was talking about when both people are conscious and not communicating well. There’s always exceptions.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/11/21 06:51 PM

I agree, but I will say that a relationship can survive a period with no/low sex, but going a few months with no/low communication would be a much bigger issue.

Idk why you see so much pushback on this concept in certain spaces. Just about everyone I know, guys and girls, will admit that looks are a big factor.

That anecdotal evidence is unreliable?
/r/PurplePillDebate08/10/21 05:10 PM

Well if we’re offering anecdotes, I have 4 ugly, married friends. One of them’s teeth are rotted and his wife was hot when they got married.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/10/21 05:04 PM
1

There definitely is an aspect of that, but I saw it across cliques too. People (even guys) wanted to date up. It was a way to prove you’re cool. So the popular girls who weren’t as attractive (usually long time friends of the hot girls) were considered hotter than hot girls of a “lower” social standing.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/10/21 10:43 PM
1

At my school, there was certainly a strong correlation between hotness and popularity, but it wasn’t a given. I thought this euphonium player was one of the hottest girls in my class, but she didn’t get along with the popular crowd. Some guys really never grow out of it. Especially the frat bro/finance bro type.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/10/21 09:39 PM

It’s definitely a certain kind of guy, and I’d confidently say it’s less prevalent among men than women, but there are definitely plenty of guys who care about that social posturing. I used to care when I was younger, so I can attest to it. Thankfully I grew out of it and was able to focus on what I wanted, and drown out the noise.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/10/21 08:23 PM
2

Plenty of guys do care. The popular crew tended to be more widely desired, because of the weird way HS social dynamics work. And the dudes with all the options would choose the average looking popular girls instead of the better looking girls outside of the popular group. Guys like highly desired women too. It’s social capital.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/10/21 08:09 PM
6

I disagree. The average looking girls in high school who hung out with the popular crew tended to punch above their weight, in my experience.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/10/21 07:58 PM
1

I don’t disagree, I’m just talking averages. There are lots of people who do grow up between 20 and 25, but not as many who grow up between 25 and 30. That’s why I assert that there’s a correlation between age and maturity before age 25ish.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/10/21 07:57 PM
4

20 is still really young. There are mature 20 year olds but it’s not the norm. Many people are still being treated like children at that age. I think age and maturity stop having much correlation around 25.

I’m with you. I always WANT to have sex, but it’s not my first priority. Now that I’m wifed up I’m having sex 6ish times a week so I’m pretty sure it’s not low T. I imagine it would be different if I wasn’t getting laid semi-regularly since I was 16. Abundance mindset, and all that. But a truly equal companionship is just something special. It’s rare enough that it may seem like it doesn’t exist, but it does.

I don’t care. She’s interested enough to go on a date with me. Then, through dating, she can see who I am and make a judgement call. And I’ll do the same thing to her. What matters is her feelings towards me after a few dates, and going forward. That’s the real part. Outside of friends you already know, pre-dating impressions are typically pretty shallow. For example, the girl in the linked post doesn’t know either dude very well. So she takes a gander based on practicality, and it didn’t work o…

I just don’t see the big deal. Circumstances change. They kept it friendly when they broke it off. Things changed, and she reached out. Face it, you’re rarely anybody’s first choice. Relationships grow and change over time. I didn’t feel the same about my wife after 1 week than I did after 3 years. I might have been her 2nd option when we met, but I’m sure as fuck her first priority now. So you’re presented with options, you take your best guess, when it doesn’t work out you try again.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/09/21 02:27 PM
1

Depends on what my relationship with her is like and how the rejection went. If we were cool beforehand, I shoot my shot, she politely rejects me, things won’t really change. I may reach out to her less, or not at all, but no hard feelings.

Mainly sports betting. It was made federally legal 3 years ago. I think around 20 states have legalized it now. Now they make up like half of all the ads in sports. Also, last year, Nevada and Louisiana legalized casino gambling state-wide. They were the first states to do so.

At least in the US, gambling is becoming much more widely accepted, and our laws are starting to reflect that. Just watch any sports event.

I think you just hammered home exactly why men need to love themselves. You’re not going to get much validation from others, so it has to come from within. It IS possible to love yourself after repeated rejections. And it’s very important. Your self-worth is not tied to your social success.

Why does the name mean imply that it’s inherent to males? Toxic masculinity =/= masculinity. It’s just a certain subsection of it.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/08/21 08:54 PM

I’m seeing a lot of this sentiment in this thread. Can someone explain to me why they thing toxic masculinity inherently blames all men? To me, It’s just a term for the negative effects of the societal expectations on men. The term in itself does not assign blame.

I like dating, so I find it worth it. I’m not really looking for a long-term commitment, so I don’t stress over it much. I mostly date for fun (and sex). I like getting to know people and I like flirting. I can see why dating would be stressful if you’re intent on finding your life-partner, but I’m not. So it’s fun.

I don’t consider myself RP (guy), but obviously doing what you can to increase attractiveness is a no-brainer. But what’s more important than that is that you socialize with strangers. Not even just girls. Try to expand your social circle. This comes pretty easy to me, but I understand it doesn’t for everyone. But if you’re not meeting new people, you’re not giving yourself a chance. Now let’s talk about the abundance mindset. What this mindset lets you do is take risks. You need to take some ri…

I think you’re making it out to be more rational than it is. You say that humans have this biological drive to seek out companionship because it increases survivability. This is totally true, but the reason behind it doesn’t matter. All our monkey brain tells us is that we want the companionship. There doesn’t have to be an explicit reason behind that, or a need that’s not being met. It’s just programmed into us.

It’s hard for me to imagine you having this conversation with your partners for 10 years and none of them ever said they want some dick on the side, too
/r/PurplePillDebate07/07/21 12:47 PM

Personally, I don’t like one-sided relationship standards. It doesn’t jive with me. I feel that I can only hold someone to a standard that I’m willing to live by myself. Of course, you and your partners are free to as you please. I’ve got no issues since you’re upfront about it. It just doesn’t make much sense to me.

In-laws. Friends of friends. The kind of people you see at big social events but never speak to for more than a few minutes.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/07/21 08:12 PM

It definitely is individual, I’m just talking about the average reaction to it. So it could totally vary depending on your circle. But in my experience, something that involves physically making something, something musical, or some athletic pursuit is more relatable to people on average, and leads to more engaged conversation.

I think there are plenty of hobbies that are interesting to people outside of it. Like, my friends are into woodworking and cars, which I’m not into but I’ll discuss it with them. But I don’t want to hear them talk about fantasy baseball, I find that really tedious. In my experience, when someone asks me what I did this weekend and I say mountain biking, it’s much more likely to get an engaged response than if I were to say videogames.

Liking progressive stuff doesn’t make you any more or less hypergamous. The girls who like kpop boys still want the “alpha” kpop boy. He may not be a traditional alpha, but there’s always someone atop the social structure. So I don’t think political leaning has anything to do with it.

Hmmm. Lasting longer was a big part of it. I realized I was busting quickly because I was very tense when I was having sex. So loosening up was a big part of it (don’t clench your buttcheeks). Also jerking off. I still jerk off and watch porn, but I don’t rush to the finish like I used to. I take my time with it. Practice like you play. But so much of it is a mental game. There are some sacrifices I’m not willing to make
/r/PurplePillDebate20/06/21 12:48 AM

Do you know what the pill does to a woman’s body? It’s not like their birth control is free of consequences. Sure, sex with a condom isn’t “fully pleasurable”. But sacrifices have to be made if you want to have sex and don’t want to have a baby. You’re basically saying it’s 100% the woman’s responsibility to prevent a pregnancy, which I don’t agree with.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/06/21 06:40 PM
8

Option A. Take responsibility for yourself. Don’t rely on someone else to prevent the pregnancy. Do it yourself. It only takes 15 seconds to rubber up. It’s not gonna kill the mood.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/06/21 06:05 PM
21

But if someone chooses not to wear a condom, they have no standing to complain that the woman controls pregnancy outcomes. You’ve made the decision not to control it yourself.

I agree with this on a philosophical level, but I think the overall effect on the lives of the children will be negative. Rightly or wrongly, divorce law prioritizes the wellbeing of the child over the financial wellbeing of the parents. Do you think there’s any way to mitigate the effect on the child’s life?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/21 01:59 PM

Were you long distance during the engagement? Did people in your life warn you against this? Honestly just curious. I was in an LDR for a time and felt like people often voiced their concern to me over it.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/06/21 06:49 PM
2

Uhh I’m engaged, but ok. There’s a difference between putting in effort and simping. Approaching isn’t simping. I would’ve never gotten laid when I was single if I waited to be approached. Like, you can still chase tail while self-improving. There’s no end-point anyway.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/06/21 03:59 PM
3

Sure, but most of us don’t have that experience. The rest of us have to put in some effort to get laid.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/06/21 03:52 PM

Approaching isn’t putting them on a pedastal. Treating them like they’re above you is putting them on a pedastal. You’ve gotta put yourself out there to have any chance.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/06/21 03:15 PM

The problem isn’t the venting. The problem is when you vent about it but never change your behaviors. Deciding not to put yourself in those situations in the future is “taking responsibility”

You’re allowed to want whatever you want. Just don’t be surprised that women aren’t into being valued for their domestic services. And damn dude, not all of those comments are as accusatory as you make them sound. Lighten up. Nobody told you you “need to have unclean sex acts performed” on you.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/05/21 07:39 PM

Have you ever gotten into a complete laughing fit, like on the verge of crying, with someone who you’re attracted to? When the laughing finally dies down, the sexual energy is enormous. So yea, it’s a plus. Not a total gamechanger, but it’s definitely appreciated.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/05/21 06:07 PM

Why not? I want to have sex with my office manager too. Is that not a platonic relationship? The nature of the relationship is not sexual, therefore it’s platonic.

Can gay guys be friends? I have 2 close female friends. 1 of them I find quite attractive, and would have sex with her if not for social consequences. But I choose not to make a move because she’s my friend. I am the master of my destiny, not my dick.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much better sex is when you’re totally comfortable with your partner.
/r/PurplePillDebate24/05/21 10:22 PM

I don’t really see those as conflicting viewpoints. I want my partner to love me for who I am right now. Continuous self-improvement is a part of my identity. In my experience, the more comfortable you are with each other, the easier it is to call your partner on their bullshit, and hold each other to high standards.

For me, in the “truest form of love”, both parties are totally comfortable being 100% themselves, and the power dynamics involved with dating fall away. So just because a girl is going out of her way to impress you does not make it “true love”

You literally asked me a question...
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 06:52 PM

From a legal perspective, I really don’t know. From a PR perspective it’d be a disaster but that’s beside the point. Personally, I feel it would be wrong to ban you for preaching any aspect of Islam, but perfectly justified if you were quoting scripture that promotes violence or promoting beliefs that incite violence. Same goes for RP or incel shit or whatever. I think it’s wrong to ban people for preaching their beliefs, until those beliefs start encroaching on the liberties of others.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 06:45 PM
1

Ok, what’s your point? The comment talks about banning people for violating ToS. If Google’s ToS said no muslims, that would violate freedom of religion. I hate to defend censorship because it sucks, but there’s a clear difference between saying “if you break these rules we’ll ban you” and saying “we’ll ban people based on their skin color or religion”
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 06:15 PM

I mean, yea, that’d violate the first amendment.

It’s helped me, an average-looking, 5’7” dude, find sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 05:49 PM

But what you’re saying really doesn’t match up with my experiences. I’ve never been aggressive about sex, but have been able to find girls here and there who are down, just by talking to them. And I still have the appetite to fuck 5-7 times a week despite jerking my dick like crazy when I was younger
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 05:45 PM

Ok, my bad for saying literally, but you laughed when I suggested talking to women.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 05:39 PM

This is a sub for debating opposing viewpoints. It’s incredibly niche, and not representative of the general population. You literally just admitted you don’t talk to women, but I’m supposed to take your word on how they behave?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 05:36 PM
2

You can have a strong sex drive without being aggressive about it. It helps if you talk to them.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 05:11 PM
1

Well I can’t argue with that since I’m 2 years older than my fiancée. But I didn’t take age into consideration when I was dating as much as you seem to. I know some people in their 40’s who still act like high schoolers.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 03:41 PM
2

You don’t think there are any men who have a strong sex drive without being a predator?
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 03:34 PM

I find that after your mid-20’s, maturity and age don’t have that strong of a correlation.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 03:31 PM

Dude here. I’ve really never thought of my career as a way to achieve sex. The motivation behind my career is a comfortable life and a comfortable retirement. I don’t really enjoy my work, but I’m good at it and I don’t hate it. Also, I have a general desire to be seen as a competent person. That’s probably just my ego talking, but it’s true.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/05/21 01:23 PM
10

I don’t want a stay at home wife, I’m interested in a partnership. I really don’t care about the nature of the work (obviously there are some exceptions) as long as it’s a stable career and she’s not working more than 50ish hours in a normal week.

/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 06:25 PM

Out of curiousity, do you guys have an issue with your partner talking about your sex life (in detail) to their closest friends? I always thought this was pretty normal.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 06:17 PM
2

I’ve planned plenty of dates, and don’t find it to be a chore. I had a few go-to’s like the rock climbing gym by my house ($25/hr). Or just go out for drinks at one of my favorite spots. I just ask myself what I want to do and them ask her to come with. It’s the same as going out with my friends.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 05:26 PM
1

She ain’t a stranger by the end of the date. And yea, I’m paying for it because I enjoyed our date. If, by the end of the date, I don’t want to go on a second date, then I’m not gonna pay for it. Is planning a date a great deal of labor? Just pick something you like doing, and take her along.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 03:53 PM
1

Ahh I misunderstood your original message as “I never enjoyed a date I paid for”
/r/PurplePillDebate20/05/21 12:07 AM
14

I’m a straight dude btw lol. Definitely didn’t make that clear. But yea, I’m perfectly capable of cooking and cleaning, so I wouldn’t expect my partner to do it for me. So we split it. It may not be perfectly 50/50 due to one of our time restraints. But we’re not worried about it being perfectly fair, we just need to get it done. Have you ever lived on your own? Did you feed yourself?
/r/PurplePillDebate19/05/21 11:57 PM
8

Yea, I could never accept an arrangement where I feel like I’m doing this task daily out of obligation to my partner. If it’s infrequent, it feels more like a romantic gesture to me.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/05/21 11:49 PM
0

You didn’t answer my question. Did you not enjoy the date just because you had to pay? If I’m paying for a second date, it’s because I enjoyed the first one.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/05/21 11:32 PM
6

For me, it’s an expectation/frequency thing. Does she like that I buy her flowers every couple of months, or does she expect flowers every week? Same goes for acts of service. If there was an expectation on me to do something every day that my partner was perfectly able to do, it would breed a lot of resentment in me.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/05/21 11:27 PM
1

I guess it can. In my experience, though, the “treat me like a princess” types tend to realize pretty quickly that they won’t get that kind of treatment from me. I don’t think a free meal every 3 weeks or so is enough to change that.

That’s so true. I visited my friend in DC a couple years ago and we went out with his friends and I couldn’t believe how much they talked about their jobs and politics. Not for me

All that pressure is self-imposed, man. What are the real world consequences of “not performing”? Some stupid chick makes an angry IG post? It’s all a bunch of nothing. Just do you.

Did you specifically not enjoy the date because you had to pay the bill? I split finances with my fiancée too, but I still like treating her to a nice night out here and there. I enjoyed the same when we were dating.

Well firstly, it’s not like I was spending $70 for every date. Sometimes they split the bill, sometimes we went on really cheap dates. Plus, it’s not like $1400 is a life-changing amount of money. I dropped out of college at 19 and had a solid warehouse job with OT, so I wasn’t really worried about money. Especially living rent-free with my mom. And no, I did not really experience that kind of snooty “You’re not worth my time” attitude, but there’s a level of pre-selection involved with that too…

I’m 31. So it was different, but not THAT different.

I’m engaged now. Dated through my early 20’s. Had plenty of fun with it. If I had to guess, I’d say I went on about 20 first dates.

Is this what you think about when you’re on a date? That’s fucking weird. I’m not interested in how she’s treated guys in the past. I’m interested in seeing how she treats me. And yes, I enjoy it. Dates are supposed to be fun. I’m not gonna continue to date someone if I’m not enjoying our dates.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only guy here who genuinely enjoys dating. I don’t mind spending $70 on a night out with a girl I’m getting to know. In fact, I like it. If it goes south, it goes south. But I don’t feel like I’m spending that $70 (or $35 on her) just to have sex with her. I obviously want that to happen, but it is what it is. You’re way overthinking it. Spending a reasonable amount of money on a first date is not going to define the entire relationship.

Gotta shoot your shot. Who cares if some women think you’re a creep? It most likely has no effect on your life. There’s always a risk when you put yourself out there. You’ve literally built a scenario in which you’re constantly getting rejected in your head. You’d be surprised how much this lack of self-belief can derail your chances. Even if it goes this way 95% of the time, you can still get dates.

That’s not his point. People want to get married because when it works, it works. I think something like 90% of businesses fail. People still want to start businesses though.

Good has more than one definition. It’s not inherently tied to morality

At some level, everyone has to look at the cost/benefit of any relationship. Otherwise you’ll likely be taken advantage of. However, when I think of a “transactional” relationship, I think of a quid pro quo type situation, where every little cost is tallied up and used as ammo against their partner. This, to me, is an unhealthy relationship.

Ok, let’s say I make $60k and have $30k saved. Am I “wealthy”? No. Am I living paycheck to paycheck? Not in the slightest.

I understand you want an emotionally strong partner, but in a long-term relationship, eventually something will happen that makes someone feel vulnerable (like the death of a loved one). Having your partner’s unwavering support through something like that makes a world of difference. You obviously don’t want someone who’s always leaning on you, but it’s a real benefit of a good relationship that, sometimes, you can lean on your partner for a period of time. It has to go both ways though.

This doesn’t fit my personal experience. Based on my success rate, I can confidently say I’m not in the top 10% of dudes. That being said, I have, on a couple occasions, found myself denying a girl I’ve been hooking up with from starting a relationship. I think it’s the vibe I give off (secure, relationship-type). On both occasions, they did not continue to hook up with me after (shocker, I know) I have never been denied a relationship with a girl I was hooking up with. I think it’s really perso…

It’s not about how you or I define sexual violence. It’s about how the surveyors define sexual violence. Which I don’t see in the abstract.

I’m a pretty trusting person in general, but I’ll always google someone’s name before a date. I’ll google someone’s name who I come across at work too, maybe it’s just curioisity.

That says non-partner sexual violence. So that leaves out rape by their partners. Plus I don’t think that includes things like catcalling. I only quickly skimmed that though, do they define non-partner sexual violence differently in the study?

Do you find your dating time cuts into your working time? Because it usually comes out of my personal time, so it wouldn’t be fair to use my wage as opportunity cost.

Sure, but I wouldn’t earn the same amount hourly in my off time as I earn doing my main job.

But you don’t make $50/hr on your personal time. Not all of your time is worth $50/hr.

Somewhere in between. She’s dropping hints, but she wants me to chase a little bit. That’s my favorite.

Yea I started in my industry as a teenager in a warehouse. Lots of companies say they want someone with a 4 year degree, but I find relevant work experience almost always trumps the degree.

Looks like I’m in the minority here. I was more focused on sex. I had gotten out of a long-term hs relationship. I was only moderately successful, but I had a few fwb’s. I just wasn’t very focused on school. I don’t think it had much to do with my sex life, it’s not like I was partying every night. If school was a priority to me at the time, I certainly would have made time for it. I dropped out after 3 semesters and have been able to find success elsewhere. Wasn’t a total waste though. I made s…

I’m engaged, and I’d say we’re quite independent. We’re working towards the same macro life-goals, but we don’t necessarily need to get into the weeds about micro stuff. If one of us wants to go away with friends for a weekend, we’ll run it by the other to make sure it works from a scheduling perspective, but it’s not like we’re asking for permission. It’s all about trust and expectations. She doesn’t need to ask my permission for anything because she knows my values what is acceptable to me, an…
