Liz is one of the best people to talk about this topic, she works so damn hard to break down the social biases in the Australian psych community. Great video,

WHO studies on the spread of HIV in Africa show a much higher rate of infection in uncircumcised men. Backfire of them publishing this information? Lots of uncircumcised dudes now think they are immune and don't wear condoms. Still I guess it's a better reaction than trying to find virgins to "cleanse" them of the virus.

I don't think it's the shirt, or the double standard or the joke that is the real thing causing anger here. That joke plays on gender roles in a way we have been accustomed to for god only knows how long. We get it, it's humor, it's not intended to belittle or harm in any serious manner. Here is probably the only forum where you can post it, point out that it's sexist, relate its ignorance and stupidity to racist, anti semetic or sexist humor of previous generations without someone losing their …

That site is an aggregated news site from local newspapers and sources owned by the same company. Article originally published in the Courier Mail as it states on the page. It's bad (lazy) journalism in most of the outlets featured on newsdotcomdotau but it's not fanciful or outright atrocious stuff like UK tabloids

It certainly does, not the pulling of chairs or opening of doors. The respect and courtesy we show one another. The shaking of hands and the agreement to not fight physically unless unavoidable and never without cause. The choice to ignore slights and attacks and treat other men as equals until they prove otherwise. Giving respect and honour until it is either affirmed or proven misplaced. What I'm getting at is chivalry wasn't about women, it was about men. It was a code that was part of male c…

No it's about making money and owning property. In this situation you aren't the slave or the slaver but the person who takes pains to be neither and stick to it. Chivalry was about being a better man according to how men defined it. It was our culture and we let ourselves lose it's meaning and be shamed into eventually letting it all but die. Fighting it because it needs a serious update isn't exactly helping men define themselves.

For you. If you think you can just decide to be better and you'll magically become better than you're kidding yourself. You can't improve without reminding yourself constantly that you aren't above or better than anyone, you can only act with more kindness, strength and care than you did previously.

Your notion of chivalry misses a very important understanding. It was never female-first. The use of chivalrous acts towards women was a reminder for the individual man. A reminder that he can be better, not better than women but better than himself. Chivalry is about reminding yourself to be a stronger more independent man who is capable of protecting all that he loves. It's a conscious decision to be better and one of the ways you become better is by reminding yourself you are not better than …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
