I think the point that creepulkins was trying to make with the picture thing wasn't about whether you put effort into it, but the fact that you are doing something explicitly as an approval seeking mechanism. You aren't telling her about this picture because you think it will provide any benefit to her. You have an ulterior motive and that's what makes it beta.

One part I don't get: how do you confirm her excuse?

I think getting your hopes up for one girl is a form of oneitis. It is hard, but until you actually start dating a girl (assuming that's what you want), you have to consider her the same way you consider a stranger you are approaching. Girls lose interest, or flake, or a million other things. The fact that you can look back and see your mistakes is an awesome way to start. Just don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Paraphrasing a wise man: Rejection doesn't suck. Rejection is awesome because…

At first, for me, it was all about practicing and training my body language. I watched this ted talk, and that was the turning point. Having confident body language tricks your brain into thinking you are more confident, so if you consciously and routinely audit your body language, you can create these feelings in yourself, which will make the rest come easier.

I really liked this point and I want to paraphrase it a little bit: When you stay in the casino after losing, you spend your time trying to recoup your losses, but when you leave the casino and come back later, you start fresh. When you get into the mindset of trying to recoup your losses with pickup, you put yourself at a disadvantage, because you suddenly "need" to successfully close, and you have objectives that you are trying to fulfill. When you get in this state, it is time to pull yoursel…

Here's something that isn't really a "trick" per-se, but it worked wonders for me. Eye contact has always been one of my biggest weaknesses in the social game. I figured it would always be uncomfortable to make eye contact and I would just have to deal with it. While this is kind of true, I've spent a ton of time just working on inner-game issues lately and I have discovered that as my confidence and comfort with myself has increased, it has become remarkably easier to make and maintain eye cont…

Why are you still trying to convince this guy? Let him settle for ugly girls, and you and I can have all of the hot ones.

I find it helpful sometimes to warm up first. Walk around an area that has a moderate to low amount of foot traffic and just look people in the eye and greet them as you pass. You have a very limited window of interaction time, so you don't have a lot of time to think about it too much. When you get into the mall, do something similar, but maybe add a "quick question" onto it, something like "where is xyz store?". When they tell you, say thanks and move on. After you start to feel in the zone, m…

Not "eventually they do". "Eventually they have, in the past" maybe. You might have been rejected before, but you can never be accepted unless you take the shot. Happy cake day.

I mean i can socialise just fine and always have felt relatively comfortable in social settings. But its the difficulty of finding connections and relating with others that bothers me and keeping up appearances. It is exhausting and seemingly pointless all too often. It seems most social environments are just places to talk about shallow meaningless things. I have difficulty conjuring the enthusiasm for it, and it shows and i guess people are put off by it and me in general. Man, I feel like you…

You have it exactly right, but not in the way you realize. You say you are good enough and that you are not afraid of failure. The first part is not true. Not that you are not good, but you can always do better. The second part is more interesting and you have unwittingly unlocked the secret to success. Failure. Think about it. When in your life has doing something easily and flawlessly ever helped you improve? That doesn't even make sense. The only way to improve is to fail. You don't learn fro…

I know exactly where you are coming from, this mirrors my experience pretty closely a few months ago. At one point I had a wake-up call that finally made me realize that part of what was causing these reactions in other people were my own thoughts. If you doubt yourself and wonder if you are good enough, women pick up on this and they start to wonder it themselves. Since you have to ask the question "what is wrong with me?", chances are that there is nothing outside of your own limiting beliefs.…

You're 20? And you are worried that you are getting too old? I just turned 30 recently. I should have worked a lot harder at building relationships in my 20s, but by no means do I feel like I am getting too old. I've read some stories about some of the great PUAs of our time and a lot of them spent their early-mid 20s struggling with women, only to finally have their breakthrough later. You don't see it now, but you have a ridiculous amount of time to improve before you are even remotely in the …

You're making the assumption that your alone time is wasted. Maybe try looking at it this way instead: while the extroverts are spending their alone time watching generic sporting event and wishing they were around people, the introvert is practicing his hobby or learning something new, so when it comes time for them both to interact with the girl of his dreams, the extrovert doesn't have much to say beyond his opening lines but the introvert has a wealth of interesting and value-adding things t…

I am actually a programmer too, and I've spent the past 7 years or so of my life mostly focused on work and not really working on developing relationships. One thing that I've been doing lately is related to this TED talk I watched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks-_Mh1QhMc the tldr of it is basically 'fake it until you make it', and I've been doing that a lot lately with pretty good success. When you're alone, make a big grin and take on a confident pose. Or even in public, find a few 'confide…

You seem to have done a lot of external things. You've got your affairs in order, you live a good life. Your problem is mostly internal. I assume if you are a long time lurker that you have dug through the stuff in the sidebar. This is critical. I think a lot of people assume this subreddit is all about using lines and techniques, and negging at the right time and knowing how to close. That, I believe, should be a secondary motivation. The most important thing you can do is learn to live your li…

Nothing anyone will ever tell you will convince you. You really need to repeat this to yourself a couple of times. The first time will never be easy, no matter how much preparation and research you do. Neither will the second. Probably not the third either. But by the 500th time, you will ask yourself "why did I ever think this was hard?"

Yeah, a lot of introverts experience this. I think introverts should, at least at first, focus more on small interactions with people that they meet day to day. Not everyone finds their true love at the bar. That girl next to you in the cereal aisle might be the one if you just said hi to her. And if not, whats the worst that could happen?

Yeah, I agree, it seems like a draining experience. Maybe fun for the first hour or two, but I would start to get weary of it pretty quick. One way that I like to look at it is that as an introvert, I want to find a smaller group of people that I can deeply connect and relate to. I don't want to focus on going to 18 bars every night and F-closing at at least 3 of them. I don't think I would be happy doing that anyway. But I find life is more enjoyable when you can share it with others. Just the …

I know where you are coming from, because only a couple of months ago, I was exactly where you are. I am a very strongly introverted person. I came to the conclusion that I was just an antisocial person that would never have any friends and never find love. I hated people, I resented people with friends and resented all of the pretty girls that have it easy because they won the genetic lottery. No on understood me. Aside from my family (and I consider myself lucky in that regard), I had never be…

Maybe you could approach a hobby from a different mindset: You don't have to be good at hobbies. You only need to be interested in them. There have been studies done that have shown that children whose parents praise them by saying things like "you are so smart!" tend to achieve less in life than children whose parents praise them with things like "you must have worked so hard at that!". The reason is because children who were taught to believe that their natural skill was the reason behind thei…

How is texting beta? I prefer conversations in text so that I can respond on my own time, and I don't want to spend 5 minutes in a phone conversation that could have been a 5 second text. I only call if my conversation requires immediate attention (e.g. "Hey, I'm standing outside of your apartment right now. let me in!" or "Help, medical person, my legs just fell off!") I am genuinely asking, by the way. I didn't know that texting is considered beta behavior.
