So abortion is defined as legalized murder? No. There's no such thing as legalized murder because the definition of the word "murder" is killing a human illegally.

Yea, that's a fair point. Many people do make that argument. And there probably is some doublethink going on with feminists. But I don't think all of those downvotes were justified.

He's not making an argument. He's just stating the fact that the word murder means killing a human illegally. This distinction isn't even restricted to abortion. An executioner carrying out a death sentence isn't guilty of murder. Nor is a soldier who kills other people in war. I personally don't support war or the death penalty. However, I wouldn't abuse language or alter the meaning of the word "murder" to make an argument against war or the death penalty. The same should be true of abortion.

Does this subreddit think that men's rights have to come at the expense of women's rights? Forcing a woman to ingest drugs and terminate her baby ought to be illegal. And if you kill something illegally then it's called murder. Because that's what words mean. The real issue has always been that the mother shouldn't be able to coerce a father into paying child support for a child he doesn't want. Which, is analogous to coercing a woman into giving birth to a child she doesn't want.

The IMDB synopsis of Ad Astra is: Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos. What in the world does this have to do with toxic masculinity?

It's difficult to take personal responsibility for one's shitty actions. It's a lot easier to blame one's bad behavior on some immutable characteristic out of their control. It's no wonder that people decide to blame maleness rather than themselves.

It's wrongheaded because it suggests that the massacres are a result of men steeped in a culture of violence. These massacres are statistically quite rare. Firstly, it's a mistake to draw general conclusions about the male population at large from a very small sample size of men. Secondly, it's a mistake to assume that the disparities in how males/females express aggression is due to socialization. The average human male is 99.9% stronger than the average female and commits 95% of murders. The c…

Political correctness taken to its extreme saps the fun out of everything. No one enjoys this including most women. Moreover, this misunderstands how people interpret language. The word "Men" in the phrase "Men in Black" is not interpreted as only being males. In much the same way that "Mankind" is not interpreted as only being males. That's because words in a sentence are not simply added up in our minds as we hear them. Replacing men with "People" is hamfisted and only serves to confuse things…

I think an even bigger issue is that it makes the ad hominem fallacy a legitimate form of argumentation against white people and men. This helps bad ideas spread because certain populations of "evil" people are not allowed to refute those ideas by virtue of their sex and skin color. I take Jonathan Haidt's view, that this will actually make white men more resilient because they will learn to effectively defend their beliefs. However, I'm very concerned about what effects it will have on the trut…

I find it funny that the picture depicts a woman preparing to use the stairs while the man uses an escalator she's just as capable of using herself. In real life -- as in this absurd image -- differences in choices lead to differences in outcomes.

A challenge for what? It depicted healthy male behavior as negative and negative but rare male behavior as common place. It was insulting. One must either suspend disbelief or adopt false beliefs in order to interpret the ad’s message as the director intended.

Just looked at the company's website. Their target demographic is quite clearly women. This is just pandering and their products are undoubtedly marked up 13% or whatever so that this discount is not really a discount at all. Company's don't care about wokeness. They care about profit. If they ever decide to start marketing to men then the market will sort this absurdity out.

Perhaps she didn't express herself eloquently, but why all the hate? She's suggesting that we strike the word "feminist" from the vernacular and IMO that's a good thing. By all measures, western society has adopted the views that feminists from the civil rights period advocated for. That is to say, we all believe in equality of opportunity for anyone regardless of their sex. Unfortunately, "feminists" didn't call it a day once they achieved their goals. And so we're stuck with a political moveme…

As a matter of principal, I think it's better for everyone if the police do as little judging as possible and leave that up to the courts instead. There's no indication in the article that the police treated Mr. Peeples unfairly. They have no way of knowing a priori if the complainants are lying. It would have been irresponsible not to have followed up on the charges.

The judge hearing the case was awesome: However, 36th District Court Judge E. Lynise Bryant thankfully dismissed the case, slamming the women’s stories as “fabricated,” claiming that they lied under oath. “[The three white women] should be sitting at the defendant’s table for stalking and harassment charges, not Mr. Peeples,” Judge Bryant said at the time. “This is disgusting and a waste of the court’s time and resources.”

"Men who are threatened or worried of women achieving equality is the bloody problem. Seriously, who briefs these muppets?" Why do people always accuse those of speaking rationally as doing so because they feel "threatened." There's nothing remotely resembling fear in his tone of voice. Indeed, the only one who appears threatened is this person who resorts to name calling rather than defending her (groundless) beliefs.

So what happens if an intoxicated male sleeps with an intoxicated female? Have they both just raped each other? Drinking alcohol doesn't absolve anyone of their responsibilities. Many (women) drink themselves into oblivion precisely because it reduce their inhibitions. Regretting those inhibitions after the fact does not make one a victim. Indeed, the term "blaming the victim" doesn't even apply. Ugh, and what's this nonsense about us living in a culture of sexual violence? Are these people delu…

That is completely true. Moreover, women are biologically predisposed to seeking a partner of a higher status. (Studies show that men don't care about this as much.) As women have risen in society due to the civil rights movement, so too has their expectation for what they consider an ideal partner. In short, their conceptualization of a "good man" has changed over time. The reduction of predominantly male jobs and decline of men entering academia also doesn't help.

Feminists are more likely to subscribe to the erroneous view that differences between people are wholly accounted for by upbringing and social rearing. Which is understandable, if your goal is to alter social norms. Unfortunately, this view is more wrong than right. Biology actually accounts for an extraordinary amount of behavioral differences between the sexes. This leads them to conclude that women succeeding & men failing can simply be remedied by feminizing men. After all, they believe that…

It's not clear to me what reversing the genders would tell us. It's true that women in general are shown more leniency under the law. They are issued lesser punishments, etc. However, that double standard doesn't absolve this person of their crime.

Unfortunately, they would and do argue that the second diagram is precisely what a patriarchy would look like. The rationale being that the men at the top dictate the terms of the hierarchy. The hierarchy dispossesses men as well. Although, the dispossessed men are typically regarded by them as harboring toxic masculinity.

Although I do believe that men are underrated and under appreciated in society "masculinity" and "femininity" are made up concepts that mean different things to different people and different cultures. These ideas are not universal laws of nature, they are social constructs defined and maintained by society at large, nothing more. Not really. There are all sorts of cultural norms wrapped up in gender. However, there is an overwhelming amount of scientific literature demonstrating that particular…

A healthy person does not end their life because of that. I never said that slandering someone was ok. However, this article doesn’t provide enough information to come to any conclusions. It’s a click bait piece and you’ve fallen for it because of the feelz.

Because men’s rights redditors are just as prone to emotional reasoning as feminist redditors. You are completely right. It’s also not normal to end your life because of two accusations. His mental heath should be of larger concern.

Mind reading is one of the many cognitive distortions shared by members of the #MeToo movement. Neil deGrasse Tyson is beloved by a great many people. At least nonsense like this undermines the movement and by extension: modern feminism.

I guess it all boils down to how you measure victimhood. In terms of suffering, the woman and her children experience more suffering post death. However, this view does not take into account the suffering of the father before his death, where the constant threat of combat and also the actual combat itself, can be immensely stressful. In terms of potentiality, the man loses more in that he is no longer able to produce and contribute to society. The women and children might be hampered in terms of…

I don’t believe that men have all the power. But even if they did, one of the great fears nowadays is being labeled as a sexist or as a racist. This is especially true if you are a white man. It can ruin you. This causes a lot of people to give in even if they don’t agree. There are also those (men) who seek to gain moral capital by accusing other men of being a sexist or by advocating for laws, etc. that make them appear to be on the side of women. Even if those accusations or laws are groundle…

This is blatant censorship on amazon's part, pure and simple. It’s not blatant without evidence. What does Amazon have to gain from wiping reviews? They just want to make money off of their products. More (positive) reviews correlate with higher sales. The only thing that matters from Amazon’s point of view is the credibility of their reviews insofar as it affects customers trust in Amazon. If they were to begin manipulating reviews then it would hurt their perceived trustworthiness and therefor…

You don't necessarily disagree with OP, he just didn't articulate himself in a way that you understood. Jordan Peterson is being slandered because he advocates for a level of free speech that disturbs the radical left. They view certain forms of speech (hate speech, gender pronoun speech, etc.) as forms of speech that ought to be regulated. Jordan Peterson does not support regulating this type of speech. From his point of view that enters Marxist territory and can quickly snowball into other for…

There's definitely a division growing in the left. Jonathan Haidt has branded the social justice / over politically correct types as the illiberal left. I completely agree. The classic liberal idea of treating people as individuals rather than members of oppressed/oppressor groups is really what's driving that wedge. You can't even talk about facts or statistics that might lead one to potentially come to a negative conclusion about a marginalized group. It's considered blasphemous. The radical l…

That was one of the episodes that frustrated me. They wanted to connect masculinity to loneliness in men. However, they essentially refute their own point when they admit that male loneliness is only a recent phenomenon. This would suggest that "toxic" masculinity has increased over time. I don't buy that for one second. Men are not becoming more masculine. The episode also pathologizes male behavior, without accounting for how male behavior can actually be adaptive. Sure, it can be unhealthy to…

I unsubscribed from the Hidden Brain immediately. I heard 2 other episodes which, were also very much anti-man (or at least didn't present an alternative perspective). I found myself screaming at my phone as well. I left a one star review of the podcast despite typically reserving judgement for podcasts since episodes in aggregate tend to balance one another out.

You make men's rights activists look bad. You say I need to grow up, but you're raging on the internet. Take a look in the mirror. You should read the opinions of those who disagree with you with more of an open mind. It will strengthen your own arguments and help you understand why it is that someone else thinks differently.

Methinks you would do well on a Cherry farm and precisely demonstrate a lack of comprehension. Why are you attacking me? Neither you, nor the authors, suggest nor accept the notion that maybe, just maybe, boys are Okay just the way they are. To be fair to the article, they did mention your exact criticisms. They provided an example of girls learning to run before boys; however, that early advantage evaporates later in life where (presumable) boys outperform girls in running. I think that the point the article is trying to make, is that early grouping of boys into less skilled reading/writing classes can hurt their future development and that biological differences in development should be considered. The article also completely agre…

The penalty for attempted murder is less severe than actual murder... That’s the entire point. What the previous poster is saying isn’t even up for debate. The justice system uses the actual damage done to determine the crime and its penalty. If a drunk driver crashes into the side of a road, then he or she will be charged with a DUI and for damages. If instead there just so happened to be a person standing on the side of the road, then they would be also be charged with man slaughter. In both c…

Honest question: do we, as society, value dogs more than men? ... No. Obviously not. I understand the point that that you're trying to make but but the answer is clearly no. Humans in general, have way more rights than animals. Dogs have less agency than humans (this includes human males) and are therefore regarded with more compassion when they suffer.

They post it publicly because they're weaponizing social media against their perceived transgressors. Social shaming has become a tool. LOL. So a teenager is capable of dealing with racism but can't deal with lying? These aren't complex issues. No healthy person reads "To Kill a Mockingbird" and walks away thinking that it's OK to lie about being raped. I see that the crusade to censor anything remotely suggestive of a woman committing wrongdoing continues... I can't believe NBC endorsed this. Good job connecting all the dots. It's now clear to me that head of management at Time Warner passed a directive down to the producers of GoT that they need a segment on mansplaining. /s It's important to place blame where blame is due.
