As far as I know, Rwanda became so women-rights friendly only after the 1994 genocide, and that because the vast majority of the victims of the conflict were of course men, and the country was in desperate need of workforce in all domains, hence they started to encourage women to get qualified, have jobs, be independent etc. I learned this in a documentary, in which Rwanda and Iceland were made an example of gender equality. Is this right, OP? Was this workforce crisis due to the war casualties …
