Yes, but I still wouldn't make it define who I am; it's simply a means to paying bills and putting food on the table. Some people place too much personal pride into their jobs and then get emotionally devastated when they get laid off or fired (or if their business goes under if self-employed).

Perhaps he just wants to work a part-time, low responsibility, albeit low-paying job just to stay busy. Perhaps he doesn't need the money anymore (i.e. it's just "fuck you" money at this point). A lot of FIRE'd individuals volunteer or downsize work even if they don't have to. He could also be using it as a cover so he doesn't signal to others that he's fully/semi-retired at a relatively younger age.
