The worst I've gotten is probably "I dunno" or something along those lines. In which case I usually turn it around with a suggestion of time/place for drinks and move forward.

Agreed. I have made a habit of never giving too much information through text, just keeping interaction going. If you reveal too much through text then they will have no reason to see you in person. I finding texting works for me because of my irregular schedule and being very busy (final year of engineering degree).

I think you might have misunderstood. I'm the one saying "So when will I see you again? :)" and the girl in this case replied with "Whenever you like". So she was, in fact, giving the power to me as you suggested.

That's what she said to me. I replied "How about drinks tomorrow @ Bar X". We met, had drinks, came back to my place for a movie and f-closed. Seemed to work just fine for me.

This. I used to have a big problem with being controlled by my moods, and it dictated my behaviour too much. It came to a point where I needed to find a way to control them. For me there were two things that I found helped: working out consistently and meditating daily. When I do these things I feel more calm and positive. I have my bad days, but they are much more few and far between than before.

In my opinion/experience texting a girl too much is a one way ticket to the friend zone. Texting can be used to make small chat and build some rapport, but if you're going to ask her on a date CALL HER. Questions can be good, but don't throw too many at her. You don't want the date to end up like an interview. As far as my favourite question, I like asking "If you could wake up tomorrow morning and be anywhere in the world, where would it be?" A lot of girls have told me that they've never been asked that before, and it opens a lot of possible conversations up. p.s. don't ask a question unless you care about the answer, girls can tell when you're not listening.

You could go back in afterward, say you forgot your jacket or something. Find the waitress, and say something like "I must apologize for my aunt/grandmother, it was rather embarrassing", she will likely say something "oh don't worry about it/no big deal/it was adorable, etc.". Then you say, "You know she did have a point, you are pretty cute. Give me your number and we'll get coffee tomorrow"
