Sure, the sentence was << The solution was for me to start being honest about what I needed help with—not by making lists of chores for him and putting them on the refrigerator, but by saying things like, “I want to make a nice dinner for us, but I don’t want to do the dishes.” >>, from this link by Laura Doyle. Things were better today! I did the laundry and when he came home was surprised to find that out. I told him that I'll fold it lately, while cutely adding that I can teach him how to fol…

Okay, that makes total sense, and yes, I can now see how what I said probably sounded like a manipulation attempt in that specific context :-/ it just sucks because almost word for word it's one of the recommended ways to ask for help with chores (I can't remember where I read it, but it was a RPW source). Next time, I will try and have his undivided attention and make it clear why I feel it's necessary to do x by y time. Thanks for the examples and explanation!

That's a good idea, thanks! And you're right, at least we're not wasting any food :)

Sure! I came home one evening (he'd been home most of the afternoon) with ingredients for one of his favourite dishes; As the sink was full, I washed the pan that I was going to use, and I asked him "hey, I want to make a nice dinner for us, but I don't want to do the dishes", to which he said the above, that he can do them, not straight away, but rather in two days. I'm trying not to pressure him with my statements, but maybe it does come across as pressuring sometimes? Usually, if I have some …

Thank you for your reply! He has been working for 2 months on the project, and the deadline is at the end of this month. He took it slow and steady at the beginning, doing the necessary research - and I praised him lots and bragged in front of his friends of how good it is that he's started on a timely manner. Then I suppose the upcoming pressure of the deadline made him panic and this month has been a rollercoaster - he's started to really work on it at the beginning of this month. Some days he…

Thank you for your comment, the last part really gives me the energy to keep going for this month. I'm not so sure he'd brag to his friends about me washing dishes - he's suggested that he'd like me to have some classy/tastefully hot pictures of me on my social media, so that his friends can see his girlfriend is hot and be jealous of that. My social media is mostly pictures of my art - but I suppose having some tasteful pictures of me couldn't hurt?

Thank you for your reply! The thing is, our standards regarding cleanliness seem to be the same - on a theoretical level. His parents' house is everything I aspire my future house to be, and he always points out to me tasteful, minimalist, and clean houses and comments that this is what his future house will look like, too. I'll look into Laura Doyle's book - I've read The Surrendered Wife and the Surrendered Single, too; I tried telling him “I want to make a nice dinner for us, but I don’t want…

Thanks for your reply! It's not my job to raise him indeed, but I think it is my responsibility to not make his life more stressful than it was before we started living together - especially since he's so busy this month. Regarding the pornography - I do have my suspicions that he's increased his use of it as a way to cope with his project stress - our sex quality and frequency has dropped a lot lately; Do you have any suggestions as to how I could draw some lines in this area? My heart really b…

Thanks for your reply! I am definitely eating less than what I used to/what I am buying. That is why I am frustrated. For example, I am used to batch cooking meals - I have a portion for dinner, and then leave the rest for next days' lunch and dinner; however, with him, he always eats through what I cooked, and if it's an especially big portion, he'll just have the leftovers for breakfast while I'm away. I did have a bad attitude about it a few weeks ago - one morning he was eating leftover pizz…

I tried sharing the burden to him regarding the dishes, and he said he'd do them, -while with a sheepish grin adding- in two days. I think he was expecting me to ague back, but I said nothing back - would this have been the place for some playful bickering? I am trying to avoid becoming just another one of his 'chores', lately I feel like any initiative that I have ("since we woke up early today, why not have breakfast together?") is met with him starting to procrastinate/do something else, and …

I don't know the context of the quote you mention, but I'm thinking there might be a difference between being aware your man has flaws and airing them out to strangers online. Just sayin'.

All of this makes sense, but what would happen in case I do end up out-earning my SO? I can't help if the field I work in pays better than his. Should I lie to him about how much I earn?

Let's give this a try! (I've stealthily followed this thread last month and it seems I achieved my unwritten goals, I was really inspired by you ladies!) October will be about myself- I've done a lot of reading from this sub (and recommended literature) on relationships and currently I'm getting along great with my bf! I do need to catch up on self-care, however, especially as we're in an LDR at the moment and I really have no excuse to not dedicate more time to myself. Improve my core balance t…
